Default Idiots on Lonestar Law

My DVR still has the show recording and i watched one of the new episodes tonight.

Somebody caught a hog in a trap that got stuck and was bleeding. The actually got her out, put in a pen, administered antibiotics, and cut it loose. How does the state who is supposed to be combating this species allow this to happen? Was it to please the tree huggers?

I was scratching my head on that one too. It happened near where I hunt. The hog was in the hog trap. That means they were trying to trap hogs. So why get this hog out, then rehabilitate it, and release it. That made no sense to me.

Trying to give the hog time to mature for the “it needs another year or two” crowd. Lol

What’s the problem? I trap dozens a year and administer shots to all of them. I’ve never seen one get sick afterwards... so I think it’s working

I would have shot it just for tearing the trap up. "We donated the meat to some needy, down on their luck people in the community" would have been an alternative to making the tree huggers happy.

I thought it was illegal to release once it was trapped? Can only release into another pen or kill? I may be remembering wrong

On edit. Just read up on it. Rule only applies if they are moved to another property. Not same property

Maybe they didn't show the implantation of the tracking device to make it a "Judas pig"?

Otherwise I have no idea.

If I catch any they get the same shots as Kyle (post #4) administers and I have had great luck

Itís on animal planet. They have to show some type of human helping animals with every episode. Now every GW I know gets calls for helping baby birds, lost fawns, and nuisance turtles.

Correct, If the hog is moved out of the county it needs a vet inspection and a injection of some sort.

I saw that too. They talked about rehabbing and releasing, but did not show the release. They added her to a few smaller pigs in a pen. My bet is they were really just keeping them and feeding to fatten up. Those pigs were not going to be released except into a freezer.

That's what I'm guessing. The guys handling the pig knew what they were doing. Nobody is rehabbing a pig and letting it go. That pig is sausage by now.

Sadly, they don't have much time to fish and hunt. Have a buddy that is one and during seasons, he is too busy following up on calls to get much hunting done or spend time with his family. It's a shame.

LoneStar Law airs on the Animal planet, the same channel that has shows like The Cat whisperer and Puppy love. Could you imagine a Snowflake tuned into watch one of the other shows and seeing them cap a hog in a trap. I'm sure that's why they did it the way they did. I bet that GW went out and shot 3 more off camera.

Or how about letting all the people without fishing licenses go with a warning and a book? Several times they have said they fished there all the time and didn't know. SMH

I was really ticked by the foreign national who got off with a warning AND got to keep the one legal fish he caught!

Sometimes I wonder why I bother reading and re-reading the book. Learning species and limits and trying my best to conserve the resource.

What kind of message does it sent to other law breakers when all most of them get is a warning and a friggin' book?

At least confiscate their gear or something! Anything to keep them from waiting until the warden is out of sight and carrying on with destroying our fisheries.

Because of all of the nurturing of wounded and orphaned animals on the show, it has created a barrage of additional phone calls for game wardens to have to deal with now

The thing than makes me scratch my head about that show is how the only way they ever seem to build a case is by getting the perps to confess. Not that I condone law breaking but if any of those folks would just shut up they'd nearly always get away with it.

Thank you for posting. I still don’t see how we can be paying for resources to get rid of wild hogs and a law enforcement officer allows a purposely trapped hog to be tended to and released. According to my 12 year old son’s math - which I got a pretty good kick from, he said that one released hog could have 2 litters of up to 15 piglets this year. Those can reproduce after 6 months old so he figures that one released pig can result in about 400 pigs they just put back on our lands.

How can this be permitted, yet alone, legal?

I read that the state of Texas and Texas Parks and Wildlife were wanting to eradicate feral hogs and a lot of other non native species. Why in the hell would they release a feral hog, that goes against what they are telling everyone, needs to be done.

Come on guys, it’s a TV show. Ratings are what keeps it alive. Killing a pig in a trap would have the snowflakes screaming. I have to agree on the soft hand approach with the fishermen. More tickets and take their gear.

I would agree that the GW should be a little more heavy handed when the violations are blatant.
Instead they give a ticket for less serious violations and let a lot of others go.
That in my opinion sends the wrong message, and those folks will be right back doing the same thing in the future.
They say they are here to educate so how better to educate them and others that the law is the law and has to be obeyed.

If they want to be seen as educators instead of law enforcement, they should explain the harm the hogs are doing to property and livestock.
Instead they want to be seen as the nice guys in white hats for the snowflakes that watch the show.

This episode is on now but I didn't see it so didn't know what was coming

The wife is setting here watching and when they started messing with the hog I just kept quiet to get her reaction

She said" shoot it, it will have 500 babies in 3 years"

The she asked " why are we watching this stupid show?"

She was raised in the city, nobody in her family hunts. But she gets it and loves living in the country
