Default Where are the Elk hunters?

Elk season starts in 3 weeks and nobody is talking about it. I drew the best tag of my life and I cant wait to get there, and its shaping up to be a really good year. I will be in Unit 16a the second archery season, is anyone ls going to be there? Is anyone hunting unit 15 this year? I have hunted that unit for the past 15 years, and I know some really good areas in that unit. Good luck to everyone!

I’ll be in Unit 52 during the 3rd week of September. Just finished rucking 2 miles with about ~30 lbs in my pack, need to improve my endurance, too much time in the office!

Being in shape is about 70% of elk hunting.

Elk hunting in the mountains in the early fall. That’s about as good as it gets!
We will be in SW Colorado for the first rifle season. Will be good times.

Good luck. We went up in the Snowies to cut some firewood yesterday. It is nice and green but was hot and a little dry. Good rain coming today through Sunday we hope.
Lots of huckleberries though, grouse hunting might be good this year.

Cow elk hunting with rifle mid Sept for us this year, private access with ,limited bull hunting in Oct.

Good luck folks, elk might be bugling early if we get some cloudy, cool days going into Sept.

Yep we shouldnít be far from each other. The guy hunting with me hunted one of the 16 units last year. Heís a lucky son of a gun when it comes to drawing hence why I drew our tag in AZ.

Took a year off on them this year, but will be chasing some mule deer in December. There is nothing like hunting elk while they are bugling. It’s very addicting!

I too noticed the elk talk to be lacking.

I didn't draw an elk tag but drew a rifle muley tag and will be hunting in some fine elk country hoping for a deer sighting or two.

Headed out now for a little cardio and will be seriously stepping up my game in preparation of November.

Best of luck to ya'll hitting the elk woods this fall.

Leaving September 7th for New Mexico elk hunt. Hunt starts the morning of the 9th. Iíve been getting my self in elk hunting shape. A variety of small injuries have delayed me some but I continue to press forward. Iím shooting out to 70 yards now but need to keep pushing out until Iím at 100 yards. Conditions would have to be perfect for me to let one fly at 100 but it sure makes 60 feel like a chip shot.

I will be in Colorado in an OTC unit somewhere. Just had my dream archery Alaska moose hunt fall apart 3 weeks before I was supposed to leave. I would take a NM landowner cow tag at this point if I could find one. Not a big fan of elk hunting solo at 55 but Iím not gonna stay home. Good luck to everyone
