How small diameter can I go for getting a bow stave?

Bigger is better. Small diameter trees make for a high back crown. Try for 8" or bigger. Small dia trees with high crown make uneven stress on the bow. There are designs tho that you can try with them. Or you can cut down the crown to flat and back the bow.
