GRXH 2020 - The Recap!

As always, writing the recap thread for a GRXH is sweet sorrow, sweet that we had such a great hunt, sorrowful that it's over.

GRXH 2020 wasn't a banner year by any measure, one hog, about 20 fish, plenty of greens; but we always max out the funometer!

We didn't go hungry, but it wasn't exactly full bellies either.

Like most years, there was boat carnage, I blew my lower unit (again), another lost their 20 hp motor completely off their transom and Paintman had a bout with wood lodged in the jet impeller.

We missed some of our regulars this year due to other obligations, but we made out pretty well without.

The high point for me was having our very own Michael Middleton share a campfire again, it's been too long and catching up was not only great fun, but made for some pretty good campfire stories.

I'll let others tell their stories and post their pictures, most of these have already been posted to Facebook and Michael was shooting video; so hopefully we can see it from their perspective.

My GRXH 2020 top ten list:
10) Hammocks rule, tents drool.
9) Thank God for tow lines and friends with working boats.
8) Cold and rain doesn't damper Granger Rangers.
7) But we are much happier when it is sunny!
6) Moonshine makes everything better.
5) After 20 years, I think I finally have the boat fuel figured out.
4) Pace yourself, you don't want to peak too early.
3) Don't bring a live chicken to the hunt.
2) You can make a fire with a cotton ball and wood ash.
1) I love my people!

Michael DON'T WHACK THIS! :-)

What a great time AGAIN.

10) Dry socks are still a luxury
9) One year old gas still burns fine in a Suzuki DF175
8) Missed my hammock
7) Being outside by a campfire with friends is therapy
6) Still don't like moonshine
5) Panga Cut is still for Pangas only
4) Don't bring a new date to this hunt
3) Kruger was still with us via Facebook
2) 40 pizzas is about 800.00
1) God please allow me to make it next year

GRXH 2020 was a good one! There was a great crowd for the Thursday night pre-party feast. We didn't starve and the weather turned out to be pretty nice for most of the weekend. We had a great group of newby's this year, ya'll need to stick around and show back up next year. It was sad to see Granger take another 2 boats down this year, but that seems to be how it goes out there. No top 10 for me this year, but here's some pics -

Y'all, I must formally apologize for not showing up but I was offered a last minute spot on an MLD ranch with tags to burn and my freezer was empty. I did think about y'all often while staying in an awesome lodge and eating over indulgent food all weekend. I am happy to report that the freezer and my wife are generally pleased. Until next time friends.

Looking for a lost motor, yep, there's a motor in there somewhere!

What happens when your 15 foot home-built jet boat gets a piece of wood jammed in the intake? Well, you pull it out of the river and fix it!

Lots for wood is needed for this group.

As one of the newbies lessons were learned. Oh I will be back but that water is cold late at night and no not because I brought food. Maybe peaked a little early? Anyway I enjoyed meeting everyone and picked up some knowledge for pig hunting. For anyone who has never been but thought about it I would highly recommend!! This is a great bunch of people from arrival to departure. Wish we were doing it again next weekend!!

Had a tremendous time at my first GRXH. Didn't really take any pics but I met some great people and learned a few lessons.

1. When you see a hog, yell HOG! It's not the same as solo hunting. Being sneaky is pointless with 30 other guys stomping around the woods.

2. If your "emotional support animal" is tasty it will be killed for food and you will be forced to swim. Consider whether that is worth it.

3. Fish head soup is delicious

4. It pays to sit around the campfire getting drunk all day. You will be rewarded with food that the people out hunting won't get a taste of.

5. Dont camp too close to the fire.

6. Saturday afternoon conversation mostly revolves around pizza and penises. I was starving and nauseated at the same time. Very interesting combo.

7. Gather as many onions as you can. Seriously. They go fast.

8. Rub everything in mustard and deep fry

9. Don't peak too early. (I know Rat covered it, but it bears repeating)

10. GRXH guys are a bunch of delinquents, d-bags and foul mouthed SOBs...

Can't friggin wait to meet up with em next year!

My lessons

1- Even the best made tent will leak if you dont set it up right.
2- Don't bring a down sleeping bag if rain is forecast, especially if you aren't going to set your tent up properly.
3- Spiders schmiders
4- Rangers who don't pitch in shouldn't get to eat
5- Briar Friar has (had) one speedy c*ck that ain't easy to get your hands on.
6- It's not a miss if what you shot at wasn't even a pig.
7- Wild mustard and onions make a pretty decent stew
8- Brazilian magic makes anything better
9- Apparently I am afraid of nothing, according to The Rat King
10- The Archer's Bane is aptly named.
