Default Americans killed

I'm sure you have heard abt the slaughter in Mex. I'm planning on making the Jan. archery season in Az. Just across the border from where that happened and now the wife is worried abt my safety. I will be traveling alone but I'm sure there will be others where ill be camping. What is your opinions?

There are some great hunting and fishing opportunities over there as well as wonderful vacation destinations. That being said, I have sworn off spending my money over there until their government decides to clean up the country. Don't look for that to happen any time soon.

It sounds like some other relatives may have been involved in activity that resulted in retaliation. Rarely are these situations random.

Yup, lots of folks still go and say how safe it is and be smart blah blah. Ain't worth it to me. No way I'm going over there for chit. Tail wags the dog over there. Cartel runs that hellhole. Gubmente on down is just a formality...and the cartels enforcers.

I'm with Trump. We need to go over there and help take care of the problem. Mexicans don't want help of course. And you see how that has helped them over the years. I consider them a terroist organization and they need to be dealt with.

I'm not an expert but I highly, highly, highly doubt their cartel wars spill over to American soil. I wouldn't worry at all.

Exactly...if that prez over there accepted any help from the U.S. he'd be dead in a minute. There's just different branches of corrupt in that country.

There is a mess load of military and border guards down in that neck of the woods. All will be on high alert after this debacle. I doubt other than a random border jumper you probably wont see anybody not in uniform.

Good luck and God bless Ronnie.

It looks like the family was ostracized from a polygamy colony in the US. So the folks were not angels most likely.
I'm happy the Mexican President turned down Trumps offer. As a guy that has spent plenty of time on the border and in Mexico. Lets just let Mexico handle there turf. I don't want anymore cartel spill over in to the US. Such as Southlake town square execution.
Not my battle not my war. Lets concentrate on cleaning up our own business. (Chicago, Watts,DC, blah, blah, blah we have our own problems is what I'm saying)

Even if they weren't "angels" they gunned down women and children, knowing they were women and children, in cold blood. This isn't armed hostiles killing armed hostiles. It's as bad as what any terrorist organization in the middle east would do.
But no, I don't agree with what Trump said about going down there. Build the wall, let them deal with their issues. Lock down the border and tightly control who crosses.

Herman Brune writer for Texas Fish and Game and guided Mexico (and Montana) hunts was always saying it was safe with some precautions. Than he and his group were confronted entering a ranch. They came out ok. But: His opinion changed. Steve Lamascus also a writer for the same magazine was Border Patrol many years. His stories can be very interesting. I grew up south Texas and never crossed once in my life. Beautiful country per articles I have read and many good people meaning no on harm but what is not good can be very bad. I will just stay home. And even here USA, if I ever get to hunt down south again, I will keep an eye out and be prepared for the unexpected. I used the two names as they are outdoor writers and specific to publication information articles. Is the magazine mentioned even still around?

I understand why you asked. I just don't agree this is the section to discuss our personal views.
Btw if you let me drive the trip will be much more dangerous than any criminal element. Just ask my wife.

Connect the dots, guys. These are drug cartels and the USA is their market. Many of our problems here at home are a direct result of the drug cartels. Just leaving them alone won't solve anything.

DRT - not trying to be political, just stating what is, from experience. My wife is from Sinaloa and we drive down periodically. American plates are prevalent, with all the "chocolate" cars in Mexico. Daytime driving is advisable, and stick to the main roads. It is just a Big Gang fight.

Ronnie - you'll be fine, as safe as you'd be in Chicago or New York city.

Sorry, I did err in my comment not reading the OP was going to Arizona. I agree you should be fine in AZ but I still have strong feelings about the country to our south. Their president politely declined President Trump's offer for assistance.

Hope you take a nice one with your longbow.

Having grown up around the border and spending time there now for work, I can tell you flat out that the border is just a line on a map. Everyone is safe there...until they’re not. I’m sure lots of people travel safely to Lebanon and places like that all the time, but I won’t be one of them because there’s one guarantee that you won’t be a victim of violence (intended or accidental) and that’s to be somewhere else.

Mexico is a failed Narco state and we don’t do a lot to make sure their problems stay on the other side of that fence and if you don’t live on a border. You have no idea how frequently people get caught up in incidents they didn’t plan.

There’s also the problem of an existing agreement with Mexico that we WON’T use our military to police the border. It’s not just as simple as “send the military”

I’ll tell you, my family and our friends did a couple of AZ javelina hunts every year growing up and it was my favorite hunts of the year. It was work humping it up and down those hills, but totally worth it.

I get why you’d want to do it, but there’s a reason we don’t have that tradition any longer! All politics and “who’s at fault” and “build the wall” talk aside, be careful and keep your eyes wide open.

Situational awareness is key in any new and different place, add fluidity of the "line on the ground" and that makes it that much more important.

There are signs in Big Ben National Park advising you not to be there after dark due to drug trafficking.

There are highway signs in Arizona telling you not to travel at night. IN THE US.

The Mexican government proved that they have lost control of the country after they had to release El Chapa’s son several days back.

It’s gone beyond being a police matter.

Mexico is a **** hole.

I avoid the east side of Esplanade in New Orleans at all cost late at night. OK in the daytime...sorta. I will be spending the winter in mexico as I have since the 80's. Only problem I have ever had in Mexico is when my home in La. was robbed while I was at the ranch. There are problem areas all over the world . Be smart about where you go anywhere and behave appropriately.
