    Buck maturity question

I’ve looked around, but you guys tell me. At What age is a buck mature? Really speaking in terms of antler size, at what age generally speaking does a buck carry his best rack from your experiences?

5 to 9, different from deer to deer. But if I had to specifically say a time period I'd say 6/7.

If it’s four years old in Wilson county, something is wrong with it.

4 is borderline. 5 is certainly mature.

Protein, high-low fence, geographical area all play into it.

Using a football analogy: consider the difference in defensive linemen in high school, college, and the NFL. High school is obviously juvenile and NFL is obviously mature. College? Wide range there and that is where your 4-6 yr old deer reside.

According to biologist, depending on which one you talk to, 7-8 years of age a buck should express full antler potential. Exceptions to the rule are more than possible.

                        Best rack is usually 6 r 7

I was always told about 7 is the peak on average and they start declining after that. I'm sure there are tons of factors like others have said. I've been hunting East Tx my whole life and have only taken one buck that made it to 6.5.
