165 in 30-06, 180 in the win mag

I have shot 165 in a previous 30-06 with a 22 “ barrel. It was an eye opener in performance.

I intend to use 180 in my win mag as an all around bullet. Don’t need the velocity a 150 brings to the table in the win mag.

But I also tend to lean heavy or heavy ish for caliber in a lot of my guns. Just preference

Shoot the heaviest bullet your twist will allow.

IDK, but my old Weatherby Vanguard will make a ragg'd hole with 180gr Federal fusion's, and that ammo is priced right. I own a 7 mag, and still have made my longest shot on a coyote with my 308 w/ the Fusions. The 7 mag holds it's own, but I haven't tried anything other then Remingtion corelokts, cause they shot so well, and I bought a ton before ammo prices went crazy . I'd go heavy.

Also I put the Fusion's through the shoulders of a very big boar hog and was impressed with the performance. So.....depending on what you're shooting you may not need such expensive fodder.
