Default Electoral college

One of my insightful cousins sent me this.

I thought ya'll would find this interesting … I DID! This is a real eyeopener!

"Subject: 319 Square Miles"

A 39 second read.

In their infinite wisdom, the United States' Founders created the Electoral College to ensure the STATES were fairly represented.
Why should one or two densely populated areas speak for the
whole of the nation?

The following list of statistics has been making the rounds on the Internet.
It should finally put an end to the argument as to why the Electoral College makes sense.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
Trump won 3,084 of them.
Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.
Trump won 46 of them.
Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan,
Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond)
Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles.
When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who Inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) DO NOT & SHOULD NOT speak for the rest of our country!

And...it's been verified and documented that those aforementioned 319 square miles are where the majority of our nation's problems foment.

Well worth the 39 seconds to read?

Here is what’s on the docket for the first session here.
Seems do be an important issue for angry Hillary supporters. Backed via Soros dollars of course.

Several issues I take with this. The first is that Clinton won over 450 counties (just the fact that she won 27 in Texas would let you know that the 57 number is false), so we're starting off with a lack of facts.

The second is the idea that the founding fathers cared one whit about the urban / rural population density difference is false. Population density at the time was 95% rural, so no one could even imagine a city with millions of people in it.

Third is that the founding fathers were a monolithic entity that were all on-board with the electoral college. The only reason the electoral college exists is because the small states threatened to go find another country to join without it. Hell, Madison and Hamilton were strongly against the idea and it only passed by a single vote.

While I'm fine with the electoral college, I think it should be apportioned the same way house / senate votes are. Two electors for whoever wins the state, and then the elector for each district goes to who won it.

I figured the facts were a bit skewed so I didn't fact check. Didn't see a need to since the article made perfect sense and clear as water.

I remember farmers would set fire to an old barn that had become so infested with rats and vermin it was of no use so they just burned it and built a new one nicer and free of the vermin. Sooner or later it must happen.

Hillary winning the popular vote is such a weak argument. When you have only a few swing States you'll never know what the people actually believe down to the number. I didn't vote Trump, but you can guarantee I would have if there was any doubt which direction Texas would go.

"My team had more hits! Just because you had more runs doesn't mean you should win!" That's how we score things Susan...

America with out the electoral college would look exactly like California. 1 party rule, forever.
The founders knew this and set up a system unlike any other place on earth. And it lead to the greatest nation in human history.

So you knew it was fake news, still didn't bother to fact check, but yet and still posted it here as the gospel without disclaimer.
OK.

Or Texas
Or Alabama
Wait, How long is forever?
Because if I'm not mistaken Reagan was the governor of that socialist state when many of us were alive.
Or was this when Ronnie was running as a Dumbocrat?
Nope. He denounced his Dem ways about 4-5 years before he decided to be a Republican.
Kinda like Trump.
Have to switch things up to whomever you think you can get the most votes from.
