The Process of Aquiring a Suppressor....

I did some searching, and found a bunch of Form 4, Form 1 wait times...blah blah blah. If this has been gone over before, I apologize, but I'm getting ready to start the process and rather than just ask Mike...I thought others might benefit from a dedicated thread.

What I'm looking for is maybe an outline of the steps in order to get going....I don't know if I need to get forms and take to a gun shop, go to a gun shop and get forms....I've read talk of kiosks involved.

Can anyone lay it out in simple terms for myself and a couple other guys who I know will be reading?

      1) If you go with a trust then find a NFA lawyer who will set it up for you. Very easy process and they are very helpful on the legality side of things

      Sean Cody (SC-Texas on here)
TexasLawShield (if I remember mine correctly)

There are plenty of others also (cost is roughly 200-400$)
Capital armory has a guy that will do it for 150$ I think

      2) Then you will get the trust and will have to Notarize it and sign it

      3) you and the members need passport photos and prints done

      4) Begin shopping

      5) Once found and purchased: Submit trust along with proper photo id’s and prints and a check for the Atf (unless it’s just a charge on your card through the business) to the dealer and they take care of the rest.

6)lots of waiting. Current wait times are 9-11 months

      7) When you get the can back from prison you will go to the dealer, fill out a 4473 and leave with your can.

That’s a very trimmed down version that covers the basics of the process

Edit: touched up the post some to make it more fluid

When I purchased mine I first got a trust set up. Once I had my trust I found a local dealer who had what I wanted in stock. I purchased the suppressor from them and wrote a check to the atf for $200 for the stamp. The dealer completed the forms and mailed them and the check to the atf then the wait was on. The dealer contacted me once my stamp came back from the atf the dealer called and I picked up my suppressor.

Call attorney, have them set-up trust and e-mail it to you. Order authentic finger print cards and ink from Amazon. Take your finger prints at home. Go to Walgreens and have your passport photos taken.

Then take copy of trust, finger print cardS, and passport photos with you when you decide to purchase your suppressor.

I would go with a trust. Even if it is just you and the wife on it.

There is the individual route that’s always been around

                  No idea on it

You can add or remove someone(wife, kids, parents, brother, sister) from a trust allowing them to be in possession of the suppressor. Without the trust, if they have access they are in possession. If the wife is home w/o you, and it is left out of the safe, or she knows the combo of the safe, she would be in possession.

You can file as an individual, wait times for those have come way down. If you ever setup a trust later, you'd have to pay the tax stamp again for the trust to acquire it.

I went the trust route, Sean Cody did mine and it was just a few days to get it and have it completed.

10-4. Can minors be included in the trust?

Cole Byran did mine, and he told me no, but could be added when they turn 18.
