Default Heading out for a 6 day catfishing trip!

Leaving at noon. Gong down to the Nueces River about 7 miles below the 59 bridge where we have a cabin.

Will be looking for any large catfish on the prowl. If any TBHer is running the river feel free to stop and say hi. My dock is an old pontoon boat and if I'm at the cabin it will have my 18' Bass Tracker with 90 Merc tied to it. 7-8 miles down river from 59 bridge on the right side.

If I'm out in the boat just look for the guy holding the catfish like in my picture

The one I'm holding is only 23 pounds. Hoping for a 50 pounder.

When decide before leaving the dock if we plan to keep or CPR each morning. If keeping them we lop off their tails and put in the live well to keep them alive. Meat can't be any whiter and zero red to clean off. I'll try to get pictures when cleaning.

Are the white bass still running down there or are they done? I’m sure I have passed by your place while catching them, but never catfished down there. Y’all rod and reel fishing or running lines?

We have 13 jugs and a small trotline out. Going to put out more tomorrow. All we caught for bait was shad, and some cut buffalo. Hoping to get some big live bait out tomorrow and drop in at least 10 more jugs.

If plans go good Iíll be down there with a buddy Saturday morning. Iíll be in my red glitter skeeter bass boat. We usually fish around and farther down from your dock. Targeting whites bass if theyíre still running.

Oh they are still running. Tim (RiverRat1) caught 7 whites in one cast net throw while catching bait. He is down on our dock right now dicking around and has caught at least 4 whites and a stupid big long nose gar that I know of. I am chugging beers and making us dinner.

Checked some jugs this morning. First one had a decent blue. Kept a few to eat later. Caught a 15 pound buffalo in the net to use as cut bait as well as shad and perch. Attachment 950055Name: IMG_21731.jpeg

I caught 4 whites off the dock in about an hour. Caught 6 in a slew with one throw of the net.

We're running jugs and drop lines

You guys let your jugs free float or weight them down?

I’ve only ever run jugs at Choke in deep water with lots of weight.

We tie some off to trees and put small weights on others. They never go too far.

Man I must have been doing it wrong all these years. I only ever ate yellow cat once and it was at a fish fry one of the neighbors put on down at Lake Placid. If memory serves that one was up around 80lbs live. Darn thing tasted like mud and breading. That was 30 years ago and since then every one I've caught I've thrown back in.

So cutting the tails off and letting them bleed out makes them tasty?

Richard.

It may be different lake to lake but if you like catfish you will me mad once you try flathead again. They're always better than blues IMO

Eating A T bone steak right now. I know our lines are loaded but too tired to go back out

Kept some for my uncle who is disabled. Caught one good flathead and had a sink full of other good ones. We kept most because the weather tomorrow is suppose to be bad and it will be catch and release most likely.Attachment 950103Name: IMG_21821.jpg
