Anybody going to brushy hill opening weekend? They've had a ton of rain last few days. If you are going in October, please give some info on the number of deer seen, and if they were coming to corn. Thanks.

Hey Txbowhunter14,. How was your trip, did you see many deer? Are they coming to corn?

We saw a few young bucks at our blind and a bunch of hogs. We saw does around the pasture but none came by our blinds. Hogs came right to the corn but the deer didn't seem interested and just walked right past the corn.

Was there corn in the feeders? Was the corn route being run?

Feeders and a corn route don't really mean anything, unless you want a shot at some hogs. What brings deer to corn is mainly the "conditions" of the natural browse. Some years you think deer will be coming to corn like crazy, and they don't come at all. Other years it seems they would not likely come, but they come like clockwork. I have just about given up on trying to figure it out, but I believe it is the timing of the rain through the summer and leading up to season opening. If it is natural browse they are craving, and it is available , the corn is not going to do much.

Anybody got any details about your recent hunt at brushy hill?

Haven't been in a while but love it there. The owners are salt of the earth people and Nick will take good care of you.

This was a few years back but I'd like to share it again. I went on a spring Turkey hunt and just after arriving at the ranch I blew a tire. It was in the sidewall and ruined. Pete helped me change the tire and took my wheel into town and had a used tire installed while I was out hunting. I can't ask for more than that.

If you are setting up your own blind, here are two areas you might want to consider. Have seen action in both.

I set up a tripod where that top yellow circle is once and I was covered up in deer. Problem was the mature bucks came out on the opposite side of that opening. So, I set up over there also. Long story short, they came out each time on the side I wasn’t on. Those deer are really smart.

Lol now that you posted that pic on the internet by the time he goes 20 people will have already hunted there.

We will be down there Nov 30th-Dec 3. Always have a good time although it was very tough hunting last year.

My buddy and I have been hunting there for about 5 years. Have had a pretty good time overall. Last year was, like you said, tough. If they won't come to corn, it's hard in a short amount to see too many deer. We are from henderson.
It's very green there right now, hunting tough again. I'm hoping something will change by Nov. 26, when we get there. What pasture do yaw normally hunt? We have tried several.

Just got back Monday from Brushy Hill. I was with Bish and his daughter in the Waver Tree pasture. It was my first time at the ranch. Hunting was tough due to all the rain late in the year. But Bish's daughter was able to knock down a doe and show the old guys how it's done.

I saw a couple of non shooter bucks in 3 days (6 hunts). I just hunted out of ground blinds, so my view was limited. But when I go back next year, I'll bring a tripod and a couple of extra game cameras. Use the cameras and tripod to scout for a couple of days, then relocate.

Good luck,

Jimbow

Hunted the Waiver Tree last week. The rain made the roads a mess, so had to walk into the pasture. Despite the tough weather we saw deer every hunt and yes they are chasing out there now. Had an opportunity at two shooter bucks but they were either too far out or just won't stop. Good luck to everyone that are heading out. The rut is ON.

It was a great time, we saw three shooter bucks in our three day hun unfortunately couldn't get a shot. Other than that we saw a bunch of deer I saw a small buck chasing does and one morning I saw 10 deer between 8&9 in the morning. Most movement was between 8&9 when it was stil foggy once it lifted they weren't moving till late evening.

It’s was just Will Rhem when when we use to go. Why is it’s west now? Is it split up?

We just got back from a six day hunt at Brushy Hill and it was the slowest hunt we have been on since we have been going down there. My son and I hunted the Hog Heaven South for six days and we each saw four deer total each while we were in our blinds. We actually saw deer walk through our corn without stopping to eat. They have had alot of rain and have plenty to eat.

Depends, you would more to yourself on the Waver Tree. Had a few guys in my group hunt it and they liked it over there. We always hunted early to mid December. But I’ve heard Hog South is the better one. I’ve hunted Hog North and didn’t care for it. Hunted Will Rehm and Kreagor too. Pm me and I can tell you more.
