Default Barn Work Yesterday

My daughter and I cleaned out part of the barn yesterday and added some fresh sand. It was hot, she was wore out, and the calves were curious. Yes, we have 5 on feed too.

Just did our entry for the heifer show and get this, we check in on a Wednesday and don't show until Sunday. Not because they are showing heifers all week, they are doing all of them on Sunday. And you have to be out of the barn Sunday night, great for us families that live 7 hours away. Let's see, 160.00 a night for hotel plus all the other expenses for the week so we can sit and do nothing for 3 days. Yep, getting their monies worth out of every single one of us. As bad as Houston

Mercedes is the worst. But there is also plenty to do around the border. Thats normally my favorite show. I show open Brahman cattle. Houston, State Fair, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Heart of Texas. Houston is by far the worst for us. Arrive Monday and dont leave until Saturday.

I would breed her back to calve in the fall. Post up pics when she has her baby. I checked my AI cows yesterday and I'm starting to see some bag. We will calve first week in October.

Well my kids have a show called No Limits Show at the North Texas Fair on the 20th. This is a new show they are doing for physical disabled or mental disabled children. Both my kids volunteered for this which I am super proud of. They will be paired with a child with disabilities and will help them show an animal. My son also volunteered one
Of his goats to participate. Should be a great experience for all the children involved. I am volunteering as well for this event looking forward to it

Well going to our first jackpot show this coming weekend in Jacksboro. We have several more we are going to do over the next 3 months.

My daughter competed in the Livestock Judging contest and the North Texas Fair and her team got 3rd place. She did ok but not great. They had some very challenging classes that included a Dorper breeding class. They will never see another dorper class in a Livestock Judging contest

I’m late to the party, but glad to see this thread...

Got a busy show year ahead. Taking a market steer to State Fair. A Beefmaster heifer to Fort Worth and Houston. 1 goat to Houston and 1 to County. Plus all the jackpots we can make.

This is Talen’s 4th year to show and the kid loves it.

Just a little PSA.

Please make sure your trailer doors are secure and locked before you pull out.

My sons girlfriend went to a prospect show with her lamb last week. They loaded the lamb in the trailer and went back to the area to go to the bathroom etc.

They came back out and jumped in and took off.

While on the freeway running 65mph at night the door swung open on the trailer and the lamb bailed out. There was a K9 cop right behind them so he locked it up and lit them up. The cop then blocked the freeway while the rounded up the lamb.

Lamb is OK. lots of Road rash... of course all on his show side.

From looking at the trailer someone removed the door lock pins from all the doors. They called the arena the next day to see if they had video. Sure enough Some kids were seen walking though the trailer lot removing the pins from their trailer and others around them.

Just make sure that lamb was lucky.

Thanks Michael!!!
Steer was lightest weighing calf at County. Placed 5th over all. Buyer donated him back to a Talen so he could show him at Dallas.
Talen won an $8500 SFA scholarship with him for having the highest placing county bred calf at the show.
We hope he makes the sale at Dallas. He has been one of the best calves we’ve had on our place.

Well we had a pretty decent day at a jackpot show. First show of the year for my kiddos and they did well. My daughter got 3 place with her goat in both rings today in her classes. My son got 3 place with his big goat in ring 2 today. There were some really nice sheep and goats at this jackpot. The kids were happy so everything was good.

Twerpy is having fun with her lamb, Kebaaab this year. Her and Mrs hit up a show in Glenrose this past weekend. (Her in the white shirt). She took 5th in her class. Time to get him on a more strict exercise regimen.
