Default Best Texas custom fishing rod?

My dads 60th birthday is coming up at the end of July and my brother and I want to get him a really nice OR custom rod. He has over a 50 rods/reels currently, but all of them are your typical store bought rod/reel combos ($75-$250). Was thinking a really nice high end rod/reel combo might be a good gift since he is about to retire and will be spending most of his time fishing. Anybody have any suggestions for a Texas company to deal with? I am currently considering Waterloo Rods but want to make sure I don't miss a good option

Does he fish fresh or salt water?

What specie and technique does he fish most often?

I don't even consider Waterloo custom anymore. Mass produced, can be bought at Academy.
Awesome gesture by the way! Good luck!

mostly fresh water for Striper (8" spoons and large topwaters) but fishes Salt for Reds and Trout 6-10 times per year. The Rod will def need to be a Med/Hvy due to the striper fishing being his main time on the water

Reel Time Custom Rods make some good quality rods. Not sure what they have in the lines for Stripper or Salt though.

Fitzgerald Rods make some excellent gear too but they are out of Florida.

Kistler Rods are made in my home town, I have 3 of them and would not buy another brand. They are the best rods I have ever used hands down.

Call Laithen Crow and ask him about a custom Hybrid. Super rods.

Your dad sounds like me. Get him a Sarge. He will leave all the other rods at home. Freebird is my favorite.

Iíve been fishing Falcon for close to 20 years and have never had a problem until a buddy broke a Cara on a hook set. I think he set the hook on a dock we were fishing but he swears he didnít. I called falcon and of course I didnít register it so they said they would give me $85 towards a new rod if I sent in the shaft just above the handle. I figured that was fair but the lady I talked too came off as a biotch and she was supposed to get back to me or was going to send me something and never did. I ended up buying a replacement Cara but have been looking for a replacement rod company since.

Sarge is looking pretty good so far.

Don't rule out Waterloo just because all these Houston boys say their local place. Waterloo is #1 on the coastal bend. Great product and great customer service.

Agree and they still do custom rods (not the ones you buy at academy).

Sounds like you need to buy him 2 rods I don't think that you can cover both types of fishing with one rod.

Waterloo sells rods made in China to the box stores but their custom rods made in Victoria are just as good as ever.

Silly question to ask on here. You'll get a ton of different answers as you would if you asked who makes the best bow lol.

Waterloo, Sarge, Laguna those are the names and they all make quality rods.

I fished for Waterloo for a while. Those guys make great rods in Victoria. I still have a bunch. That being said, the Sarge rods are the lightest, best quality i have ever fished with. Rod weight makes a big difference when you are casting all day.
