Default What have I found? Sabertooth? Antler?

Hiking on a trail on my property here in Northern California today I was clearing for a new section of trail and about 8" down as I was digging, I found this. It is about 7" long and from all the research I've done, it could be a sabertooth, or something else random??? It is very dense and not "wooden" in weight or vein structure. What does ye ole green screen have to say??

After a little research, it appears California was a prolific home of Saber Tooth Tigers. My vote is Saber Toothed Tiger. I'd get with a local archaeologist and find out the best way to polish or bring out the true form of the tusk/tooth.

I would think if it was a dinosaur claw it would be petrified and it would look and feel like rock if it were a sabretooth cat tooth it would look and feel like a tooth (they are not fossilized).

Quick point on the difference between a horn and an antler.....Antlers are solid and are shed once a year. A horn stays for life and the outside is kind of a sheath that is on top of a bony part. The horn itself can be slid off after death and is hollow. I you have a tigers tooth myself.

If you can confirm some sort of tooth or claw, I'd be looking for the rest of that critter. Also would possibly be concerned as to who/or what might get real interested in my property.

If that is in California I would lie about where I found it for fear of closing down your property for digging on protected land.

Not sure, but I'm guessing there's a 100K fine for picking it up off the ground in California.

If it's not petrified/fossilized it's not a tooth from a sabre tooth tiger lol.
