Default After a 40 minute fight

I landed my first sturgeon. A great battle in the Snake River current, photo op, and she swam away to fight another day.

That is very cool. I got to fish the Snake River a few years ago, did not catch anything. But I can tell you I was hoping for a sturgeon. My wife and daughter had no idea, what a sturgeon is. It did not matter, we did not get a single nibble. The river flow was very high when we went, from what I could see, non of the locals were catching anything.

Great catch, that would be a dream to land one of those dinosaurs. That had to be one hell of a fight.

That's awesome Gary! Incredible fish. And a good source of caviar.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kill-t. Gotta go!

Thanks for the comments. Yes, this was definitely a bucket list item.

I will try to answer a few questions. The equipment was a Shimano Tyrnos50 mounted on a pretty stiff 6 1/2 ft rod. It was loaded with 200 lb braid, just in case you hook a big one the guide said. A pretty standard 3 way, with a 1 lb weight and 10/0 Gamakatsu Big River bait hook. We used 2 different baits, strips of salmon belly soaked in some crawdad juju and live smallmouth with the fins cut off. I caught this one on a bass

It was a great boat ride up into Hells Canyon, past the Imnaha River which dumps into the Snake out of eastern Oregon. We jet boated through several sets of rapids, caught a ton of smallmouth, and saw mule deer, bighorn sheep, and bald eagles.
