To expand my question, if SHTF and you had an AR or an M1A socom which would you grab?

AR benefits that stick out to me.
More easily suppressed generally come threaded
Regulated gas ports for suppression
unlimited configurations
Easier to fix
Most Sub MOA out of the box

M1A
Better cycle system
Just as good as a club when your ammo runs out
Proven battle hardened design

At the end of the day, the best SHTF rifle is the one you are comfortable with and the one you practice with. Either will get the job done in the time frame that your average gunfight will last.

YHM Smooth Rifle forearm...it's held up well but is heavier than I would like.

I added a TruGlo red/green dot scope to mine. At 50 yards 4 quick shots made a quarter size group.

Aren't all Rifle Lengths heavy?

some more than others...

I prefer the look of the forearm flush or even having the can countersunk inside. I made a good buy on the phantom but that booger is heavy as well.
