Default Camaro or Challenger?

I sold my Harley (never thought I would) but want to take the $ and get me another playboy. Iím going to spend 12-15000. I think I can get a good deal on a 2010-2013

I love the body styles of both. Anything you guys can tell me to help me decide? Any features or problems?

Personally, I would go with a Challenger. I'm not a "car guy". I think the Challenger is just the most aesthetically pleasing, best performing car that anyone could own. I wish I had a Hellcat or Demon.

Regular ol challengers are ugly to me, look like the wheels don't match the car from the front and back. I'd go camaro, unless you're thinking hellcat or something. I had a co worker who had a ss camaro and that thing sounded badazz.

Both 2013
Camaro SS 1LE - 426hp, 420lbft torque, 3860lbs

Challenger SRT8 - 470hp, 470lbft torque, 4170lbs

Challenger probably has the edge in a straight line but the Camaro 1LE package handles awesome. ....and if you can find a ZL1...

I havenít really liked a camero since 1967 to 1972. Every time they come out with a new model Iím like that looks nice but it gets old quick.

Chevy forgot how to make cars sometime in the 60ís to early 70ís.

Hands down-Camaro. Will be cheaper to make it go fast and they are already fast
I think the Challenger is better looking but for a toy, the Camaro has my vote.
I have raced both with my Mustang GT's and the Camaro's are the ones I need to watch

I have an ‘11 Camaro. It’s a stock LS and plenty fast. I love that car. If you want a true hot rod save your pennies and get a Hellcat.

Have been a camaro guy since the early 80's. I didn't care for challengers when they first came out and really didn't care for the body style of the new camaros. I have driven each and like the handling of the challenger best. My son has the angry bee scat and loves it. Only downside I had with challenger was the view looking back. Felt blind on both sides of the rear glass.

I think most I see are V6ís. There is one in Decatur that has a cam and seems heavily modified. Usually owners that drive fast cars just putt around in them. Itís the V6 guys that punch them. 😜

I had a 2013 ZL1 for a couple of years and sold it back in 2015 to buy another Harley, ironically. Loved the horsepower and handling, didn't like the blind spots.

After owning the ZL1, would you get it again or is the SS enough? The current models are 650hp for the ZL1 and 455hp for the SS. I bet the supercharger is fun but do you have any place to really open it up and use its potential safely?

txpitdog:

I would definitely purchase the ZL1 again, if I had the funds. My BIL had an SS 1LE at the same time, and there was a noticeable difference in sound and power (kind of obvious due to the supercharger). When I owned the car I lived in Harker Heights, and used to travel to Belton quite a bit to see a girl (now my wife). There were several times I was able to "safely" open it up on Highway 190, but never to its full potential. I will say the funnest times I spent with the car were windy country backroads.

Ok last question...maybe. Was the 1LE a noticeable improvement in handling? I think the ZL1 domes with most of the 1LE (?), could be wrong.

In my opinion, yes. The 1LE had a much stiffer suspension but everything else felt the same.

It comes down to if you're a Mopar or GM guy.

Also, what is your goal? Do you want to actually have a fast car? If so, you need to make at least 600hp or more. Manufactures keep raising the bar on stock vehicles. Everything is so fast now a days. You're not going to be close to the fastest guy around with a standard RT or SS that's 10 years old.

There's a handful of soccer moms driving around with those new Jeep grand Cherokees that look like grocery getters, but will wax a 2010 SS Camaro lol. Same goes with a lot of these tuned diesels. A stock 6.7 power stroke with a 300hp or 350hp tune will ice those 10 year old stock v8 muscle cars.

I, too, am looking at purchasing a Camaro, once our house is completed (May 7th). I have looked at the 2018-2020 1LE 2SS packages. I would like a ZL1, but I just cant afford it. I have the funds for the 1LE, but I just have to find the car. It seems that once I find one, it is gone the next day.

I may just need to save up for the ZL1.

Camaro every day over the challenger. I really want to love the challenger, but dodge just sucks. At the same price points, the camaro is far and away better. The dodge SHOULD be more reliable since it's the same pushrod tech, but they're just not. Mopar parts are more expensive. It's a heavy pig. Neither has great interiors, but I sure wouldnt put the dodge up there. Sucks, because on paper the challenger is everything an american car should be, but just doesnt work out. It's the best looking to me though.

Of course I skipped them all after shopping and bought a porsche 987.2 that weighs 1k less than them lol.

Save your pennies.

I had a 17 ZL1 & it was a beast...It's a drivers game with a Hellcat up to the 1/4 being lighter & having better stock / wider tires, but after that the extra hp's will have the HC in the lead. If you add any turns then it's game over as it's really what it was designed to do.

Keep the nannies on in town, especially if you let someone else drive it...650 ponies isn't for those who don't respect them.

Stock car besides the safety harness / role cage.

There was a thread / poll on camaro6 for age of ZL1 owners & was pretty even across the board with most going from 40-75...I'm sure it would be a lot different for the SS.
