Not the best idea.
To much sand that could get in it and seize the roller.
(This is what I've heard from the long time beach fisherman)

I'm not a fan and don't see the need anyway, we're not looking at Tuna speed runs. One of my favorite rods (action) had rollers and always had to mess with at least one of the rollers on it to spin freely as I'd like.

Catch sharks is good quality and quick service.
Oz bought the company a few years back.

I definitely like what he has on catch sharks. Was wondering if there’s anything else out there. Those leaders he makes are pretty nice

Glad someone started this thread! I have a buddy that is a pretty hard core sharker. Went on my first trip with him a few years ago and I was hooked! Still new to the game but shark fishing is up there with duck hunting, about as addicting as it gets! Only been able to go once this summer. Went to Matagorda a few weeks ago. Couple of runs but no hookups. Using cut stingray for bait and could see the bites they took out of them. Managed to catch a couple of 18” black tips but the highlight of the trip was a 38” bull red! My biggest bull to date. Will probably be September before I make it back down but will be following along with this thread. Tight lines!

I have 1 full roller rod that I use with one of my Avet 80Ws and it has never given me an issue, you can get sealed bearings on the newer guides so sand isn't an issue and I wash all my gear with fresh water after every trip. I see alot of full rollers in Florida where they plant them in the beach and fight while sitting in the sand. Here in texas we mainly use shark racks when we use big roller rods so you are pretty high off the sand.

As far as fishing tackle I buy from a friend of mines shop in Corpus that makes all their own weights, leaders. Hard Life Fishing Tackle, he has a youtube channel and shows alot of good tips on gear and shark fishing.

So i ended up going steel after too many cut leaders on straight mono. I have 3.5 feet coated stainless steel cable, with a 13/0 non stainless circle hook, tied to 500lb mono leader, all load bearing connection points are 400lb swivels. Total length is 18 feet of leader. Used the mouse trap method outlined on texassharkfishing. Spider weight can move up and down a portion of the mono leader. Hoping this will work any last minute advise would be greatly appreciated.

Set ups look good, should work.
Still lots of toothies out there to be caught.
Like the simple, yet effective rod holders. How is it mounted to truck?

Good luck!

Where are you going? I was down last weekend and going again this weekend. Surf is loaded with them. I caught a 39Ē bull red and had a good run with a massive shark. We caught 8 total I think all together. Iím trying to post pics but for some reason these pics donít want to post. Not doing anything different. Oh yeah and that big one took off with my brand new leader I just got from Oz.

I had some decent sized baits out last weekend with two good runs but lost both. About three weeks ago when I stayed on the beach we left the baits out all night, no takers but the baits were not very desirable. Last weekend and this weekend I will be daytime only, maybe a little right after dark as Iíll have the wife and kids with me and wonít be out there all night weíll go back into town and sleep, come hit it in the morning again
