The title says it all? Whatís your reasoning? Not enough acreage to support rifle, challenge, thrill, longer season, etc?

For me it comes down to a few things. Challenge, being closer to the animals and I love shooting in the evenings and weekends in my yard. I practice a ton and I am always learning something new. Nothing against rifle hunting, it's just not my thing. I haven't shot a deer with a rifle since the early 90s.

For me it is the challenge. Gave up the gun 10 years ago because i was bored with it. Last couple years i switched to traditional archery to increase that challenge even more. I enjoy shooting guns and take gun hunters all the time. I just donít get any rush out of doing it myself. My three boys have also switched to archery only. We still kill just as many deer.

Started out as a way to have a longer hunting season. But now its the up close in the middle of the action vs setting in a box 100yrds away that I get a real kick out of.

Earlier start

Challenge. I have not a lot of desire to shoot a deer with a gun anymore. I will, but it doesn’t do much for satisfaction.

The feeling of taking an animal with a bow is something that non bowhunters don’t understand until by do it themselves. I was like that once until I had about 3-4 bowkills and the satisfaction of accomplishing that has made it worth the efforts.

I started bow hunting because I was bored with sitting in a small house, with windows, heat, and comfy chair and shooting deer! In other words, the challenge intrigued me. Now I am bored with that, so I am starting to rifle hunt out west for different game and will swap over to a bow there once I get an antelope, elk, and mule deer with a rifle.

Because the feeling of successfully getting within 10-15 yards of my prey, drawing my recurve with my finger on the string, and my eyes just focused on the animal, letting it go, and having that arrow hit its mark and effectively killing it is unmatched by any other hunting experience I've been on.

I enjoy hunting, and will still break out the boom stick from time to time in order to get it done with less challenge than it takes with the recurve... and those hunts will be fun... but any hunt is made that much better if you successfully do it within bow range.

Because hunting is in my blood.

I’ve always loved being challenged but there’s more to it than just the challenge. Longer season gives me more time doing what I love, hunting out west has ruined sitting in a deer blind here in Texas and using a bow makes it fun again, tags out of state for desired places are more easily accessible with a bow as well.

For me itís the challenge and the Thrill of being so close you can hear the animals breath, crunch corn and acorns but to have them never know you were there. Thatís a success in its self. Also hearing the THWACK when your arrow hits right where you want it to go, that gets to ol heart pumping good. Plus you see and hear and learn so much more when you are right on top of the animals instead of being in a blind 100yrds away.

Started bowhunting to get the extra month and put the bow up as soon as rifle season started but I enjoy bow hunting much more now. I rarely get busted rifle hunting our place is pretty easy to shoot what you want with a gun. Getting it with a bow can be very frustrating and I get busted every year. I really enjoy the challenge of it.

Get to hunt longer main reason. I have come to prefer hunting with my bow if I am going after does or a cull buck. When I am hunting an old big deer, that is very rarely seen during daylight, I still grab the rifle. Also depends where I hunt. I really enjoy bow hunting the hill country where I will have 10+ deer within 20 yds of me. When hunting central TX where I see an average of 0-2 deer per sit, I have the rifle in my hand.

Been bow only for all 4 legged creatures I hunt since 96. Love the challenge and the preparation, etc, it requires. I'm 55 now and know one day I'll pickup a gun again but hopefully not for awhile longer. Hunt birds with a gun.

To tell the truth I havenít bow hunted since high school. I joined a few years back when I wanted to get back into it, but have since realized I just donít have the time to dedicate to it. Plus I donít enjoy deer hunting anyways. Hogs and varmints are what gets my blood boiling. I enjoy the talk here, and read through far more than I participate though. I mostly hang out in the campfire and other side though, as thatís what I know. I do scroll through bow only conversations, as I still enjoy learning. I just have come to the conclusion that I wonít have the time to dedicate to bow hunting to be as efficient as I should without giving up other hobbies.

The whole point of the question is this. Why would this group dog pile a good person because he chose a less efficient method to take game? He wants a challenge, and practices to ensure he’s up to that challenge. Just like y’all do as bow hunters. Those specifically doing it for the challenge, which bow hunting is a less efficient method of taking game as well compared to rifles at normal distances as well. If you’re capable, and confident in your ability to make the shot then that’s all that should matter. I’m not seeing him call the dogs, which is more than I can say for many of the 20-40 yd hunters in here.
