Congrats I’m glad you got him without too much drama! As a dog handler, when somebody tells me they have stomach contents on their arrow mixed with blood there is always a possibility the deer was quartering in a way that the arrow passed through the stomach either upon entry or exit. If other vitals were hit the deer will not be far - usually between 20 and 100 yards! In this case I tell people feel free to follow the blood trail up to 100 yards and if they’ve trailed it 100 yards and the blood trail is running out or they still haven’t found the deer, go ahead and call me back. A bunch of times we have driven along ways many hours after the shot to trail a deer that was dead inside 100 yards the whole time. Now, if you know you hit it back and don’t have a blood trail don’t just go blindly searching all through the woods. That’s not a good thing to do. Hope this helps.
