I stick my deer heads under a molasses tub for about 10 months. Always come out clean. Sometimes I skin them but it is not necessary

That is pretty cool. I have heard using bleach is a bad idea though. Go to sally's hair care and get the hydrogen peroxide solution. Spray painting with kilz sounds like a good idea also.

We do this all the time. We bury them in a compose pile and it takes next to no time for them to be picked clean. Then we spray bottle some bleach on them and leave them in the direct sunlight for awhile.

Question - I have a big compost pile surounded by hog wire in the corner of my backyard. If I bury a hog head in there a foot or so deep, how bad will the smell be? I don't think my wife or the neighbors would appreciate the wafting odor of rotting flesh

After reading your post I remember that I've had a skull buried for 2 years now. I wonder how it looks!

You won't smell it until you turn the pile. Which i did every week just to check on progress.

How do you keep the horns from bleaching out?
