Used to hunt in Milam County and always looked forward to the rut in our area around Nov 11-15. If you're in the right spot, you can see some really good bucks. Deer density has improved over the years, too. Back in the 70's and 80's, you never would see deer in a lot of areas that you do now.
This is Buck was shot just a few hours after this picture was taken last year. A guy a couple of places over got him. 23” wide and scored in the 150’s.
Some very very big deer in Milam/East Bell/Falls areas.
Just not too many of them and not every pocket of woods that has deer has big deer. This country is very broken up into smaller tracts with tons of open farm land. But if you can find places that are a couple hundred acres plus of woods where the bucks can get some age on them, they will get big. I know of two 150" plus bucks killed within a couple miles of each other on the Milam/Bell co line last season
My buck scored a hair under 140. Bought 19 acres. Had him on cam all summer and was somehow able to keep him on or close to my 5 acres of brush for 5 months lol. Lucky lucky.
