            my bet is on bone as well... if it's not photoshopped.
            soft tissue doesn't hang open like that except in movies.

                  I disagree. That evergreen in the back travels the length of his body. It would have to be perfectly aligned with snow on one of the branches. Even the snow in the tree is not that white or clean. I think a thrashed rib bone is more believable at that height. When I look at it the depth, the white looks forward in the wound..
