Default All of the free stuff

I've got all of the reclaimed stuff in this house for free. A bunch of my friends have "donated it to the cause". So much of the stuff has a story to go with it and I think it's what makes it kind of special.
This old fire brick with a star came out of the old ranch house and I stuck it in over the door when I was laying stone. It won't mean anything to anyone else but it does to me. It was the only one I could find in there and it was loose so I'm not 100% sure it was original.

I also laid rock behind the stove so I wouldn't catch the wall on fire. As you can tell....I like stone and wood. I'm not quite done with the wall in the picture and the mortar isn't quite dry on the top stones.
I had an old replica stove that I used all winter to keep warm with and burn all of my wood scraps. I have been eyeballing some really old stoves that a guy in Slaton rebuilds and I pulled the trigger on getting one. I've burned it a couple of times on really cool mornings and had to open the windows. It works well! 1855 vintage

Outstanding project. Really enjoy the detailed pics of how you are building this. I like stone and wood too, and you have really featured these materials in your construction. One of the coolest parts of this is all the stories of how your friends “donated it to the cause". Great work!

I had some leftover stone but not enough to do the entire wall so I laid it up on two walls kind of going to a peak in the corner. It is a little bit unconventional but I thought it turned out good. I stripped some old fence panels and used them on two walls in my bedroom. I started putting 6" wide cedar fence slats up for the ceiling on Sunday.

Default Finished one bedroom

Finished the ceiling and put up the trim around the door and re-hung the old door this weekend. Really glad I was able to get three doors and all of the trim above and around the door out of that old ranch house.

Started putting up tongue and groove Douglas Fir on the other bedroom wall and cedar on another wall in there. I ran out of fir so I'll have to wait until next weekend to work on it.

You can see the tongue and groove fir on the far left wall. I couldn't finish the cedar because the fir goes up first. The cedar is a "japanese cedar". It was the same price as the western red cedar. Not bad looking for fence slats

Thanks for all of the nice comments. I am lucky to be able to work on this cabin every week and lucky that I am still physically able to do it. Hopefully Iíll have a nice comfortable place to hang out when I retire.

Iím leaning towards stained concrete for the floors. Iíve never done any of that before and was wondering if anybody on here had any advice and how hard it is to stain it?

I've gpt about 600 square feet in the living room/kitchen and of course I wanted to put wood on the ceiling. I bought Japanese cedar fence slats and put them through the shaper and put a tongue and groove on them. Then I mixed white primer and water and whitewashed them to lighten them up. I didn't want a dark living / kitchen area and wanted the ceiling to reflect a little bit of light. It's a bunch of work and slow going cutting around the joists and the stove pipe but I think it's starting to look pretty good.
