Nueces river Retreat - 2022 spring fishing starts now!

The wife and I got down here this afternoon. Once we got unpacked we launched the boat got it loaded and headed up river. With less than 2 hours of light I was just hoping to get a few lines out. Right away I started catching perfect 6-12” tilapia. So we hi-tailed it down the river. I was in panic mode as baits this good are hard to come by. We got out 7 lines down river and 4 up river. Fingers crossed for the morning run

David and Oneeye couldn’t make it this time. JonB should be coming in tomorrow evening. May be a little rough on the water Friday evening and Saturday but I bet we do ok

Wish us luck. I’ll try to get pictures starting tomorrow If anyone like tilapia and this front doesn’t push them deep I can get them all they want. I’m not cleaning those suckers though.

I cleaned a bunch of tilapia once that we caught at a friends ranch tank.
Never again. These were full of green crap. I guess it was the vegetation they eat.

Those flat heads love em. Gonna be some limbs shaking tomorrow if the gar dont get em . Water should be cool enough to keep them away.

Following! I spent 3 months on that stretch of the river in 2012. Didn’t get to fish it due to work and the river being low but still enjoyed drinking beer there in the evenings

Never heard of using Tilapia for bait.. looks like they work pretty well though. How do y'all catch them?
