Plywood behind sheetrock, in rooms you want to hang heads in.

                Lots has been said already.

Things I will do on the next one:

Built in gun room/shelter in conditioned space
Big back porch that faces East. (Current one faces sw and cooks you)
Multiple shower heads or steam heads in shower (current walk-in shower is kinda cold)
                Tankless water heater
                Softener
                Gas range
Range vent that vents to outside, not just filters
No windows in garage, they just take up otherwise useable wall space
Huge electrical panel with plenty of space for more circuits down the road
                Home automation/video system
                Zoned HVAC

Full size door for your gun closet/room. Ask me how I know.

Play wood backing under sheet rock in areas you will be hanging TVs, mounts, or anything with any weight. Play wood in garage.

                    Insulated garage ceiling

My son is a plumber and when he built his house he has a hot water faucet by his garage so he can wash coolers out or use to wash anything.

I've been in my house for almost 4 months now. I added quite a bit of concrete and wish I could have gotten away with more. If you have a boat, or could get a boat, have an outside outlet and water handy. Something we really appreciate... concrete past the drip edge of the back porch. LIGHTS IN CLOSETS!! Wish I would have done this. Regardless of size, have a contractor grade LED installed, or something... We did dim-able LED recessed lights in most common areas, really like those. Wish we would have done them on back porch instead of on/off.

Find areas to save and splurge in others... that's what we did and it was fun.

                        Congrats!!

Thanks for the input. Most of what has been mentioned is what we are doing in our build. I dont think it is in the budget for a gun room, but I have a storage area in the garage and i have 2 gun safes.

I do like the idea of plywood behind sheetrock and hot water faucet by the garage. We do have a boat and have put a 3rd bay for the garage for boat storage. This will double as a sausage making area, cleaning area, etc. for animals and when it gets cold. Not going with a tankless water heater, at least not at this point. We will have two 55 gallon water heaters with a recirculating pump and one heater for the house and one for our bathroom.

Thanks for the thoughts and keep em coming.

This right here. If you seal it up well your hvac needs to be sized properly or you will have issues. I would talk to your builder about this and see what his plan is.
