Ok I book hunts on our ranch. I don’t over promise. I do pay in full hunts because I can’t control the hunter’s ability and I don’t sit next to them. I have an outfitter that does guaranteed hunts on our place as well. But we get 500 a weekend for the lodge and ranch expenses. Water, electricity, fuel for rangers ect. The key to booking the hunt is know what your getting. We do written contracts. I bust my butt to get hunters their animals. Does it always work out? No it’s hunting.
Sounds like it worked out. Everyone should due there due diligence when booking a hunt and that’s not a guarantee. Many people pay 6-10k to hunt elk and eat a tag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Trophy8- I’m grumpy? Go back to your 3rd grade reading teacher and get her to help you read my post again. I simply said I wouldn’t hire a young kid as a guide. How do you get “grumpy” out of that? So you can’t read, you assume way too much, and when you don’t understand the narrative, you make-up your own. Seek some counseling.

OP, just because you didn't see a 150" deer doesn't mean they are not there. On the lease I hunt now, we have lots of pictures of 150" deer and still haven't laid eyes on one of the target deer yet. Another problem could be the guide probably overestimated the size of his deer. Sometimes the deer just don't cooperate. This experience has taught you to be more diligent in the future. You did good by tipping extra even though it probably wans't deserved. I hope you find you 150" buck soon.

I can't speak for this hunt and how the guide acted. I would have been t-d off as well. I am real glad it worked out.
Tim is trying to defend an outfit nothing like his own. Hunting is hunting, but effort does matter. I hunted with Tim a few years ago and it was obvious he had worked his @$$$ before and during the hunt. The hunt exceeded my expectations and I had multiple opportunities at fantastic bucks. I understand that not all hunts work out, but no one on that hunt can say he wasn't doing his part. |

Not sure why y'all think I'm defending this guide. Maybe just because I asked too many questions before jumping on the bandwagon and grabbing my pitchfork?

Was just saying being out $500 isn't bad for an entire weekend for two people that saw lots of deer (just no shooter) I even say he owes nothing. Somewhere I asked how people on TBH knew that ranch had no 150" bucks. Was that not valid? Anyway I sold a lot of hunts in the past. Trust me, every single person takes things differently. Some are just happy to be outside, others want their exact deer on a rope and all in between. I guarantee a few guys left here unhappy. I'm just glad they didn't post on TBH and the mob grab pitchforks ![]() |

Everything ended well for all except my son but he knows it’s hurting and sometimes things don’t go as planned but he even said he didn’t think the place has the class deer or many that we were looking for, no hard feelings for anyone, we are speaking with a guide now who sent several pics of 150+ class deer he has available, he is trying to get a good pattern on them then we will head south and hunt again, season is still fairly young and I’m confident things will pan out for my son .

On a side note it was well worth $700 to me to spend time with my son outdoors and see some new country! Money well spent

That’s the spirit! Me and my dad spent a LOT more in Colorado for a crappy outfitter. I still got to spend 5 days in beautiful country with my dad.

Good luck on your next hunt. Any hunt spent with your son is a good one.
