My parents never really made me believe in Santa. I always knew that they purchased the gifts. It didn't bother me one bit growing up either. I didn't get into the whole Santa thing until I married my wife.

Well I hope you've learned your lesson from this thread!! According to most these posts, you must be a horrible parent if you at all question going against what is considered socially normal and acceptable. You must at once conform or as one of em mentioned "find some better parents for em".

Gotta admit some these responses caught me way offguard.

So the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny aren’t real? Let’s just ruin all the fun for the kids these days.

My kids know that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ and also believe or have believed in Santa.

You can have it both ways.

My daughter soon to be 13 knows Santa isn’t real but plays along because she doesn’t want to spoil the fun for her brother who is soon to be 10.

Not everything is black and white.

I can't imagine how some of you get through daily life.

The Santa Clause lie? You mean that deal that goes on from maybe the age of 3 up to primary school? Kids in that age range don't even know the full difference between real and fake. Heck, most of them believe Disney characters are real at that age. Yes, let's squash their dreams and imaginations and let them grow up like robots.

I agree, kids should learn the true meaning of Christmas and it is about Christ and not all about Santa and gifts. When I was a kid, we used to always go to Christmas Eve service to start the celebration. It was my Grandparents and Parents way of telling us what should come first.

While I believe in your right to raise your children in any way you see fit, I must respectfully disagree with your position.

I have a 30-year-old daughter who believed in Santa Clause for, maybe, the first six years of her life when someone else’s child told her “the truth.” She was also raised a Christian, believes in all the tenets it teaches, and, to this day, is soundly guided by them.

Today, she is a hard-working, productive member of society who believes in the rule of law, understands the importance that the in-tact nuclear family has on society, is compassionate, giving, firm, fearless, and a lover of adventure. In other words, she is very well-balanced and well-adjusted.

…and she STILL believes in Santa Claus!

My whole family (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles) brought us up going to church, attending all the holiday services, and still celebrating the Christmas tree and Santa. I believed in Santa as a child and I didn't lose an ounce of trust in my family when I learned otherwise because I understood why they let me believe. That was part of letting me have a childhood. I just thought everyone was combining the religious background as well as the cultural side.

A question for those of you on the "keep it jesus" train - how does the date, pine tree covered in lights and ornaments, candy canes, gingerbread, and stockings translate to celebrating Jesus? After all, Jesus was in the Middle East. Do you not incorporate any of those things in December?

There are certainly lots of 'lies' out there we need to vociferously combat. Like:
Rabbits (Bugs Bunny) can talk.
Curly could still see after Moe poked his fingers into his eyes.
Big purple dinosaurs can sing.
Turtles can go all 'Ninja' on someone.
Grab the pitchforks! Let's go!!!

Apparently, you can. In your mind, that's what you've been doing. If you have to ask questions about how to reconcile "Santa Clause" in your mind, navigating the rest of the world must be impossible.

What is the real reason you're grasping for attention? That's really seems to be all this is.

I can see where you want your kids to understand that Jesus is real and santa is fake , but the part about not not lying to them is a bit off. If you only were to tell the truth would you tell them they are ugly as soap or that they were stupid? No you try and encourage them to feel good about them selves. Kids are a lot smarter than you give them credit for. There are a lot of things they can figure out on their own. With this logic they would not be allowed to watch anything other than factual documentaries. TV and movies are fake. The truth is good but so is letting a kid be a kid.

I guess my question really triggered a lot of people on here. It was a question that I posed to myself after I was discussing honesty and telling the truth with my own kids. My wife mentioned Elf on the Shelf and I wasn't feeling it this year. I just talked to my kids about being honest and not lying, and then I would turn right around a perpetuate a lie about an elf. It didn't seem right to me.

I was close with about 19 cousins that were all roughly the same age. 16 of us believed in santa. 2 grew up knowing there was no Santa. Those two are doing long stints in TDCJ. There's your evidence.

In the colloquial language of the day, triggered or triggering a response has a negative connotation. To be triggered is to be angered.

Your OP is quite the opposite unless you want to imply that it has triggered comedy and amusement.

It appears that the person triggered is you upon finding out that almost no one has embraced your enlightened childhood at an early age.

Your conclusion tells it all… “I wasn’t feeling it”.

Absolutely!! Because you missed out on part of fond childhood memories, you want to pass on that missing enjoyment.

You’re entitled.

So are we.

I am not a psychologist but I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night….

I liked the Romeo and Juliet moment when Clarice found out that Rudolph had a red nose but fell in love with him and that made daddy reindeer mad and forced them apart.

But it didn’t work…..

Clarice then put on what might have been the cartoon move of all time when she told Ruldoph later that any doe would be lucky to be with you. She must have been enlightened at an early age about the rut.

Of course I am emotionally damaged since I found out it was all a lie.

I can appreciate your purpose, but if you do some research, the Santa parable is actually based on a true Christian person. I feel like with my kids, we were able to enjoy the parable and still worship, follow, and share about the true story of Christmas of being Immanuel, "Christ with us."

Great article, though I’m not sure I agree with all of it. The premise is that Santa Claus is a metaphor for the Christian values of giving and the importance of caring for our children.

Still here. Few things have changed however... After several life events, including burying my only son, I have decided to stand for Christ no matter what. Believing in Santa Claus has zippo with defending Christ. It's a family, national and even a world tradition. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I can love someone strongly and disagree with them, even not "like" them. It's not hard to do with the mindset of Christ. To have someone pass judgement on parents/grandparents/families because they choose to celebrate Christmas by including family traditions is ludicrous and I called it out. The subject is as old as Santa Claus... It gets brought up every year and has NEVER been resolved and will NEVER be resolved. THAT's why I suggested to take it to the PACE forum.
I hope you have a great Christmas Season however you choose to celebrate it.

Christmas has nothing to do with a mystical Santa Claus. We taught our kids and celebrated the birth of Christ. Teach them young. Let them see you celebrate and worship the Lord. It's the only way to go.

They can see that 365 days a year, and a little "santa" isn't going to detract from that at all. So no presents either?

Just let it run it’s course bro. Kids find out. And when they do it kinda takes away the magic of Christmas. At least it did for me. Enjoy the season while telling them the “reason for the season”.

And we wonder why we have so many conspiracy theorists on here. Lol. OP, Treyro said it best. Only you can decide how to raise your kids. I'm sorry so many on here chose to "pass judgement" on your parenting decision because you have chosen not to continue the Santa tradition. I'm also sorry everyone jumped on you for trying to discuss some trivial, non-hunting subject. 90% of the threads on here are trivial, non-hunting threads. Good luck with your kiddos.
