Default Duck Season 2018-2019

Since the season is about a month away I figured I would start a thread for everyone to share their duck hunts or stories to come this season. All summer I have been getting my dog ready for his first full season and I am pumped!

Yep, can't get here fast enough.

Last few years, with water everywhere, the places I've hunt the birds have been far and few between. So, it will be interesting to see how it goes with all the reports that tanks are dry and lakes' water levels are low.

Of course, I'm not looking forward to having to walk a mile to get to the water's edge.

I'm ready. Need some rain in some of my spots though. Watched one of my better holes dry up this summer, and another one drastically shrink. I guess if you look at the positive for that one, no matter what side of the pond they commit to, they're going to be in range

SOON

The weather seems cooler than last year hopefully that will push some good flights of early teal.

You're more than welcome to come hunt with me and my buddies if you're okay with public land. The hunting is hit or miss but it's free and we have all the gear you'll need till you get addicted to it

Was just about to say that with as many Duck hunters on the GS, we can probably hook you up.

I'm planning on doing more hunting this year and will be looking for anyone wanting to meet up.

Most of the folks I've hunted with are up in Dallas area. The guys in my area have either moved or got on private land.

Its a lot easier to get up at 0'dark thirty knowing someone is waiting on me then going by yourself.

hully1029 and 11B,

Ya'll are near some great areas to duck hunt public. It does get crowded with Dallas metro being so close, but with some leg work, you can find some spots to get into .

PM me if you're ever interested in hunting in the Austin area.

I will have some days to take out someone that is new to it. Have more than enough gear, no guided hunt, but close to it. Just no promise on birds.

Something about duck hunting is just more enjoyable to me with a small group.

The guys I hunt with regularly is a small group of about 6 of us, every single one of us is on the green screen too.

Always willing to bring new people out, all you need is your license (make sure you have your HIP cert, migratory bird endorsement, federal duck stamp, and in some cases, make sure you have your APH permit) get yourself a pair of waders, a shotgun and a box or two of steel shot. Oh and make sure you're on time

Got plenty of gear, no promises on birds but itll be a good time, we usually do fairly well. Traded trips with plenty of other TBHers as well.

Pretty much exactly what he said. Very seldom will I take out more than a 4 man group. We do well (most of the time)

This drought is going to hurt us this year with a lack of feed, hopefully we can get some more rain and fill up the ponds and lakes in the area and at least have the chance to hold some birds.

Alligator question. Since Anahuac NWR did away with camping in line the night before, and with the flatbill wearing millennials showing up at Justin Hurst by the thousands, we are think about Mad Island or Guadalupe Delta.

ARE ALLIGATORS going to eat our dog????

Also, we are two Dads each with a Teen hunter. One of the teens is a girl and one hell of a hunter. For a group of four, we do pretty well.

Yup, come on out with us! Ultralite has shown me the ways and now I'm a regular in the duck blind. We never guarantee birds, only a good time!

Man, I really need to get my dog ready for this season. He'll be excited to be in the blind though. I'm ready!

Possibly.

I have a boykin and will not take him out there until December. We've hunted teal and early season with gators in the ponds more than a couple of times. Had one take 3 of our ducks in one hunt once. Have also encountered multiple slides out there from the big lizards. Some guys risk it. I don't.

I am not sure about Mad Island, but Guadalupe is covered with gators. We dont typically bring the dog durning real season and during big duck season, the dog is by my side the entire walk.

Will be hunting teal on the coast during the opener. I take my dog and have for the last 5 years. Stays with me until light and never had a gator encounter in the pond. She did try to jump on one from the boat on our way out when she was young. Luckily it was a small one and wanted out of there as badly as I wanted her back in the boat. Still scared the crud out of me. What's great about this years opener is the the South Zone Dove season opens the Friday night before teal. Got a dove spot lined up Friday evening. Mid-Sept is like my Christmas.

Hopedale - If you're looking for a hunting partner in Centex shoot me a PM. My boy is finally in middle school football which opens up my weekends a lot more.

I’m ready for it! Hopefully weather conditions will be better in my area, this year. We could have used more water most of last season.

We had some petty good shooting last year, but it wasn’t very consistent.

2íx2í 1/2Ē plywood with a rubber door mat stapled to the top with pvc legs. I donít use it anymore to hunt with since I have the momarsh dog blind. I use the stand with some training without the legs.

hope to meet and hunt with yall this season. I took about a 5 year break from bird hunting when my lab passed. I started getting the itch again this spring. I've got all the gear and am ready to go this year. It will be interesting to see how much if any my old spots have changed.
