At a ripe 86 yrs old, my Dad killed another nice buck yesterday. In mid Oct, I had a huge 10pt start coming regular. This was a deer we knew well and Dad passed last year because he broke a g2 at the beam. Dad did not think he could crossbow hunt this year so I kept him fed with high hopes for rifle opener. The deer was coming multiple times per day but on Thursday before opening day Dad got sick and was admitted to the hospital. The camera showed that dude there opening morning as usual but zero pics since. I'm pretty sure a neighbor got him.
Anyway I had a solid mature 8pt with a little base kicker coming regular but Dad seemed uninterested hunting him from the pics.
As the front rolled in yesterday, I knew deer would move and Dad was feeling good. We sneaked in during a break in the storm and was set when the rain stopped. Hunt was slower than expected with one doe for an hour but just before dusk,, I saw the 8pt coming..
I pointed at him and whispered to Dad who it was.. he raised his binos up eith the buck 50yds and closing. I saw Dad flinch when he found the deer.lol he started reaching for his gun. The deer got behind some trees abd Dad was ready when he came in sight. He made a perfect shot and the deer was down.
Nowhere near his best deer but he is thrilled and I'm really blessed to share another great hunt with the ol Geezer! Thank you Lord.
