    Lost deer

Ok i shot a doe at 530 yesterday afternoon. I had a rock solid rest at a hair over 200 yards. We followed the blood trail about 100 yards in a pine thicket. The trail gave out, then we hunted for her until 1000pm. Big question is if i find her this morning, how will i know if the meat is still edible. I just hate the thought of it going to waste, or worse yet a wounded deer.

What’s the temperature there? If below 50, I’d say it’s probably good. May not have died until after midnight.

We had an old time processor (lady) open up the hip joint pop the hip bone out of the socket and give it a sniff.
According to her, if you get a sour smell it indicated the meat was going to be bad. So not worth the risk.
