Public Hunting Where a Rifle is Allowed

I know about Caddo but are there any other public hunting opportunities in Texas where you can use a centerfire rifle?

All the national forest in east Texas that I'm aware of you can.

Several of the Wildlife Management Areas in East Texas allow rifles. Look at the APH book. Some Army Corps of Engineers land in East Texas too. Most National Forest/Grasslands in East Texas.

...with exception to LBJ National Grasslands. It's archery, shotgun, or muzzelloader only there.

Edit: I just saw where you said "east Texas".

That would be a grassland, not a forrest

True, but it is managed and run by the US Forestry Service.

And it's all Froggy's fault, being a grassland that is.

The big thicket units also allow some straight wall calibers

Twin Buttes PHL, and Alabama creek WMA, and I think Lake Meredith are a few other spots.

Sabine national forest you can, there are probably other east texas federal land you can rifle hunt on just have to research. As far as state owned Luminant WMA #607 is the only non draw rifle area I know.

It appears that centerfire rifle is not allowed this season at Twin Buttes PHL.

                      Do your research...

You'd get drawn and quartered for mentioning some of them on a public forum, but there are more than you think, and you will not find much info on the web.

Isn't that what they did to Mel Gibson in Braveheart, in the last scene when he screams out "Freedom"?

I think Lake Meredith allows rifles IIRC, we've camped a few times there going back and forth between here and Wyoming and seem to recall wanting to bring a rifle a few times.
