    Corn prices

Anybody looked at corn futures lately? We are looking at a 30% increase since Jan 1. Between that and fuel prices might be a tough hunting season this fall.

Protein is becoming a comparable option, price wise.

I've been seriously considering growing some at home. The problem I've found is that estimated yield is measured in bushels and I have no idea what that is or how that translates to weight of kernels.

Not sure where you got that info, but it’s false. Sure, some people stop feeding protein in September because horn growth is almost done, but that doesn’t mean the deer stop eating it. We feed timed protein year round and between the whitetail and exotics, it gets eaten.

Cottonseed is another feed option that’s cheaper than corn by the ton right now.

Not looking good from what I'm seeing. I'm afraid gas and corn prices are going to make hunting a challenge this fall. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm already planning for less corn. we have 21 corn feeders with most set to 10-11 seconds from september through march. doesn't sound like much, but I'll probably turn them all down to 7 seconds.

20-30% is 20-30%. we were paying about $240 a delivered ton for bulk two years ago. I think its about $350 a ton now. Crazy. not to mention cottonseed prices as well.

at least it hasn't rained since october!

Our protein is 370/ton delivered . I can’t get corn delivered for under 400 around me.

the last delivery I got was october so no doubt that's right.

I don't feed protein though, just cotton seed and corn. looks like protein is in our future!
