    Ruidoso Tips?

My wife and I are making a last minute trip to Ruidoso. We have no plans, just winging it. We plan to camp most of the time on National Forest land with our 2 and 4 year old so should be an experience!

Any must see’s while we are out there? Any fishing in the area???

Take the drive thru the forest from Ruidoso to Alto.

If you like "Billy The Kid" history, Lincoln is not too far from Ruidoso

Drive to Cloudcroft and out to White Sands, NM. If you like native American stuff, there is a place north of Alamogordo just off the highway which has tons of petroglyphs.

There is also an old military fort.

Fort Stanton is situated on 240 acres and surrounded by 25,000 acres of undeveloped BLM land in south-central New Mexico. There are 88 buildings on this historic site, some dating back to 1855.

Smokey the Bear site is north of town.

Go up to the runnels place for some horse back ridding in the mountain! The runnels are family to the younger gang that ran with Billy the kid. Great set up as cowboy and as western as you can get these days!

Carlsbad Cavern is three hours to the south. Maybe catch it on the way home.

Farley's is a cool place to hang out and grab a beer. Good pizza. Games for kids.

There's a zip line at the Inn of the Mountain Gods that goes across the lake. You can also rent kayaks there.

Ski Apache: ride gondola to the top enjoy the view and cool/cold, They also have zip line, hiking. Go on the rez 1/4 way up the road, hike/ elk watch in the eve.

Go to Cloud Croft for half a day shop, look around, eat at the bbq place. Then go on down to White sands and watch the sunset.

Flying J ranch dinner and cowboy band.

                            Horse races.

Fished some around there and it’s hit or miss every time I’ve been. Caught a few rainbows in the low 20’s in rio ruidoso. If wanting to get the kids fishing there’s a trout pond at an RV park on the east edge of town, would probably be a good place to get the kids on some trout to get them excited.
