Default Transporting a ranch truck to the shop?

My deer lease truck in Menard has a clunking in the front end that Iím tired of hearing.
I need to get it 10 miles to town to have it diagnosed and repaired.
Since driving it to the lease a couple of years ago Iíve let the registration laps and it is currently uninsured.

My question is how do yíall go about this?

To get it to town legally I could -
1. Have it towed via a tow truck both ways
2. Trailer it with a trailer Iíd have to rent or borrow
3. Tow it with my Daily driver.
4. Get a 30 day permit and insure it for the time itís on the road.

Any other options Iím missing here?

Thanks for any replies/recommendations.

Car dolly rental from Uhaul? Looks like it’s around 40-50 bucks a day.

Go for it. What are the odds getting stopped? I doubt any cop will give you smack. I drove our lease truck 11 miles to Fredericksburg to get gas, passed a sheriff deputy. No worries

Shoot there's been folks using tow bars (homemade ones from the looks of some) across the state for years headed to Mexico, you shouldn't have any trouble going 10 miles into town.

I think you can get a one way permit to legally get it there...

I’ve only used it for trailers, but it’s like 5 bucks.

I wouldn't just drive it into town and hope for the best. No insurance and exp. registration will probably run you well in excess of $500 plus court fees. Seek out alternate methods.

Call your insurance agent and get the permit. Not worth trying it in Menard.

This place is funny sometimes. If the question was about shooting a deer 1 minute before legal shooting light, most people would be appalled at saying it is OK. But here they are telling people to drive with no registration and better yet, no insurance......lol

I live in the country and think I have a decent idea how most small towns work. I would just drive it to the shop. If you get stopped just explain the situation. I can't believe this would be a big deal to anyone.

I would get a dolly and tow it. This is why: If I drove it, it would completely breakdown exactly half way to town. Would have to walk or hitch a ride to town, then have it towed.

The rumor is true, I'd tow it if possible. You could also try sneaking it past them. If your coming in from 190 cut behind the gun store and miss the intersection. If from the south, use the low water crossing. I also noticed they like their lunch break.

I had another thought. You said you see the local cop all of the time....why not just pull in and ask him? Tell him it is a onetime deal to get it repaired.

yea....i am sure the police will give you to ok to drive without insurance. Then when you have an accident the cop will tell the other driver that he said it was ok for you to drive without insurance

You need an inspection before you can get registration...tell them you are driving to town to get it inspected so you can get it registered. Buy a 30 day liability only insurance policy if you are that worried about it

Seems like a car dolly for $40 or so dollars would be the easiest way to avoid any possible problems. Unless someone else volunteers to pay any possible fines if you drive it
