***18 Days to Kill Iowa/Kansas Live!!!***

I woke up this morning like a kid on Christmas day!
Iowa has been on my bucket list for a while and after four years of buying points, planning, phone calls, and research, it’s finally happening.
My truck has been packed for 5 days as I had to put 4 days in at work. So I left the rig in Loving NM yesterday at 12:00. Drove to OK city. Got a nap and now I’m headed to Zone 4 to meet with Matt, our outfitter and get in a tree.
My buddy Clark and I will be hunting with
MDL Outfitters. We’ll have 2 farms to ourselves in South Central Iowa for 10 days. Then I’ll head straight to Unit 7 in Kansas, where I’ll be meeting my little brother Kade and I’ll be there for 8 days.
I’m hoping that with 18 days of straight Hunting from daylight to dark, I’ll have 2 sets of horns and a lot of meat to take back to Texas.
Clark & I have been hunting the Mid West together for 7 years and is an awesome guy to share a camp with. He has already got a good start to the season by killing his target buck back home in Arkansas on his river bottom property, so I’m hoping to borrow some of his luck!
We should be rolling in to town about the same time today. Unpack, ride over to look at both farms with Matt and hopefully be posted up in a tree by 2:30 this evening.

Awesome buddy! Can’t wait for those pics to start rolling in! Me and Spies will be foaming at the bit waiting for Friday afternoon to head north! Cameras have been going off pretty good with blurry running does. So you know things are getting right!! Good luck brother!

Just met up with Clark in Kearney Missouri. Grabbed a quick bite to eat and we are headed North.
1.5 hrs from Camp.

They are starting to turn on. I saw 5 bucks this morning here in SE Iowa (Davis County). I have rattled 4 times since Thursday and rattled in 4 bucks. Here is the buck that I rattled in this morning. I usually hit the horns really hard to start and rattle for about 30-45 seconds followed by a couple of long grunts. 3 of the four bucks were on me before I could put the horns down. Good Luck !!!

We are in a tree in Iowa!!!!

Not gonna lie! This is pretty surreal!!
I’m in Iowa doing what I love. I’m gonna quote Clark and say...

“We are blessed human beings. Check mark off a bucket list”

Matt was on time and very professional. Super good guy.
Went over stands with us, parking, deer trails, sightings, scrape lines and a number of other details that could benefit our hunt.

Had to sit down and just take it all in for a minute.
I’m 20’ up in a rivers edge lock on in a wood line that runs East and West with a heavy traveled deer trail right down the middle. There is a creek that meets the strip of woods 50 yards to my North. Got a NW wind blowing me in to the neighbors hay pasture. I’m over looking a CRP field to my West.
Pics don’t do this spot justice. It screams monster buck territory. And is beautiful!!
Clark is set up in a clump of trees 1/4 mile from me over looking the CRP and a natural drainage. Both of our spots would be great for decoys and we’ll probably test that theory soon.
I’ve got a cut corn field to my East & across the county rd to my West.
Wind is pretty stiff @ 13 MPH. It’s 46 degrees and dropping.

I’ve been waiting a long time to start this live hunt.
I sure hope it doesn’t disappoint.

Here is my sit tonight. Turnip, radish, oats, triticale and rye food plot. Cut corn field and standing beans in front of me. There was a nice 8 point and some does in my connecting food plot when I climbed up.

5 does 150 yards to my East with a buck pushing them around.
Hit the horns and a few grunts and brought him to 30 yards.
135”-140” 9 point for the first evening is definitely not a bad way to start out in Iowa.

So does the outfit you are hunting with drop you off and pick you up? Or do they just hang at camp and point out which stands are where?? You said you had a private farm just for the two of y’all? Curious on some of the details on this hunt, I’d really like to come up and do something like this one day.
