    Good Start - Velvet Growth

Watched this buck Saturday evening while hog hunting. Not sure I can remember one in our area this far along in mid-April.

Its the same every year for the most part. All on a schedule based on the rut.

          RCW,

I’ve got one the same...way ahead of the others. Not sure if that means more potential or just hard horned earlier. We shall see.

I'll try and get up on the river soon to pull cards to check his progress.

            Nice pic. TXBRASS.

It just means he dropped his rack earlier last year.

Just like a pregnant doe, the time to grow back horns is very similar. So it all depends on health, injuries, and when they dropped as to when they start growing.

I have a couple bucks like him every year. But what sucks is by mid aug they dont grow an inch. While other are tiny now, but will blow right past them by sept.

Nothing to report or show lately. Need the farmers west of me to get all there grain out of the fields and stubble plowed under. I loose 90% of the deer each year during June and July because they go live in the Corn and Maize grain fields across river.

Hope all are catching some of these unusual July rains.
