    GRXH 2021 Icepocalypse recap!

GRXH 2021 is in the books, and it was a great year despite all the obvious clues to the contrary.
Yes, it was cold, from Wednesday to Friday it was 19, 17 and 13 respectively (and that's without wind chill) but Saturday and Sunday brought it all home in Texas Style! The snow and ice melted and we were privy to the best that Texas weather has to offer!

Yes, we broke trail in the snow and ice while hiking in from the trailhead, it sucked, but we did it. As soon as we figured out the ramps were open, we dragged the boats to the water's edge.

Yes, we broke ice on both the main lake and in the river into camp.

Yes, we suffered boat failures, just like every year.

But, in the end, GRXH 2021 was what it always is; a meeting of like-minded people that we have been doing for over 21 years. Men and women that are out to prove that we have nothing to prove, we love what we love, we love who we love and we are not apologetic about it; if you don't like it, don't show up.

Yes, the cold weather, ice and snow kept some brethren out of camp this year dealing with broken pipes, power outages and family members in need; but a few hardy individuals who were blessed with a little good fortune did make it. We had 26 people in camp on Saturday, enough to have a Noobie (Griswald) win the flask.
No pigs this year, not for lack of trying, and shooting; me, Bho and Bruce trailed a pig for over a half mile before we lost blood. Wildman shot one that ended up on private property

Yes, we did eat, a nice soup on Saturday night made from Rabbit, ***** and *****. In the end, we didn't eat enough to tame the hunger, but just enough to keep the wolves at bay. Fish were non existent, because of the ice on the river, but we made do alright...

All in all, we did what we always do, we had fun, we had great fellowship around the fire and we hunted our asses off.

Pictures will follow, but here's my list for this year...
    1) I have a boat that won't float (punched a hole in the bottom)
    2) A fire that won't light (too cold and wet, until Friday anyway)
    3) A Pig that won't die (blood trail for days, but dries up eventually)
    4) Brazilians will show up no matter what.
    5) Never bet on the under for Rangers to show up.
    6) If you put out a call for Lonestar Beer it will be answered.
    7) Record low temps WILL keep people home.
    8) Breaking ice is cool in the boat.
    9) A tarp is great until you need a tent.
    10) In Texas, you need a 4 x 4 truck and a center console boat.

As always, it has been a great hunt and I can't wait until the next gathering.

I am still getting caught up from the storms. I never have 10, but I have a few.

    1. 1 rabbit can feed about 20 people.
    2. I need to figure out why my feet are always cold in my hammock.
    3. I can stay up until 4am at the GRXH, but I am ready for bed at 8pm if I am working.
    4. Frozen/broken water pipes and broken water wells can wait for the GRXH.
    5. Eating a double cheese burger, large fries, large dr pepper, and a chocolate brownie sunday all at once after not really eating for 48 hours will about make you throw up.
    6. Hiking in with a 70 pound pack on ice is fun.

All in all this was another great time with great people. The GRXH doesn't disappoint. Maybe next year the weather will be nice and the Biden lovers will attend.

How was the dillo? Heard it called poor man's pork before. Worth taking one next time?
