For me, just dry corn cause it's right there and convenient. Someday I'll try marshmallows, cat food, or fish like some others have had luck with. Sometimes I find the traps knocked over and the corn gone. I suspect hogs or deer knock them over and they probably wouldn't with something besides corn.

I haven't tried to read every post so sorry if it's been said, but do the deer seemed bothered by the trapped critter near the feeder? I have been hesitant to set up too close to the feed pen because I don't want to disturb the deer

Don't think so. I've already deleted them but, I had lots of game camera pics of deer eating corn under the feeder and a racoon trapped next to them. I anchor mine a few feet away cause I wondered the same thing. I've seen other folks pics that look like traps are anchored to the feeder legs so, I'm guessing it doesn't bother the deer.
