Default Just got out of the dentist chair

Had to have one cavity drilled and filled. I donít let them deaden anything. Just get after it. Itís not bad until they bump the nerve but even that isnít bad. Better than walking around with a numbed mouth for half a day. Anybody else go novacane free?

I don't go novacane free but like you the dentist does not bother me at all, I enjoy it! Best friend and FIL are terrified. The novacane does make it tough to put a chew in lol

I've never had a dental procedure beyond cleaning, but what your bragging about strikes me as the equivalent to roshamboing for the hell of it.

I cant think of a good reason to go without the shot. Unless you are actually into roshambo for fun. To each his own.

I have quite a few patients that donít take anesthetic at all. Lots of small cavities donít need it. I work on an old rancher in Castroville that makes me do all his crowns without being numb. Personally, i would rather just be numb. We have short duration anesthetic that wears off in under an hour.

What's so bad about the shot? Doesn't hurt and it wears off pretty quick.

I thought I was a manly man--went into the doc to have a fingernail bed infection opened and drained. Doc asked if I wanted the needle and I figured "how bad can this be?" and said "No". All was good even when he slid the scalpel on top of the nail and pushed it inside about 1/4" and then pulled it out. He began "expressing" (aka squeezing) the swollen area and pus began coming out. Next thing I remember was waking up laying on the exam table. No sir, I'll take the Novocaine or whatever every time.

That's a big negative. I had a crown put in last week, I opted to pay additional money for gas and still hated every minute of it.

I'm not trying to win any awards with the dentist. Shoot me up.
I'd rather take a drill to my foot that drilling on my teeth without the shot.

I’m having an implant put in in a couple of weeks... $650 for the anesthesia, no thanks, I’ll be awake and deadened. From what I hear it’s mostly just drilling pressure on your jawbone.

I’ll pass on the no shot root canal. There is no pain if the cavity isn’t deep. It only tickles if they go close to the nerve.

You will be fine without sedation. Lots of people do it that way. You will just feel some pressure.

I used to be the same way, but not so much any more now that I've gotten older.

Back in my younger, rougher days I used to be a bouncer at a bar just outside of Kansas City. Rough place. I took a couple of superficial knife wounds and was able to stitch them up on my own with my first aid kit that I kept handy just for such occasions. Got into a squabble with my own bartender and his posse once, and one of them got me with a nasty knife wound to my ribs. Ended up going to the hospital for that one and got 9 staples from the doc. She offered me a local anesthetic but I didn't want it. Pain don't hurt. That's what I always used to say.

The staples actually did hurt like a *****, but I held it all it in and kept my composure because that doc was a really hot blonde and I wanted to ask her out.

Circumcision the same way but I couldn't walk for a year and half afterwards. Hated the feeling of all those stitches when I got circumcised must have been a least 10 or 12. Why would you want to hurt getting a filling. Must be married and use to pain.

My dad is the same way. Never gets any shots or deadening of any kind. When the dentist suggested root canal on one he told him to just pull it instead.
He didn’t pass that trait down to me. I usually get two rounds of shots.

Give me the needles. I'll take my jaw full of Novacane and like it. Not a fan of the cold water drill. To this day I think my dentist in my small hometown as a kid used his cold water drill as a way to get even with kids that ****** his teacher wife off..

I've had two root canals with no deadening of any kind. I wanted it but the dentist said it wasn't necessary as the nerve was already dead. Neither one hurt at all so I guess he was right.
