Here's to a new season and a new thread! Who's ready for deer season?

I scouted a new piece today and threw up a camera. Looks promising!

Anyone else been out scouting yet?

Probably going to head out this weekend. Going to get some miles hiked and look for a few places to put up cameras. Would be nice to get a read on what’s out there and how they are growing. Would love to have some more success out there this season.

Went out the week before last and rode one of the trails to the backside of a section that was the most beautiful area of LBJ I had ever seen.
Also rode up on 2 separate does with brand new fawns, saw my first wild mulberry tree out there and several ponds that looked good for fishing or early teal.
Then I spilled and dislocated my shoulder and called it a day.
Now healing for my overseas trip this coming Wednesday.
But yeah, I'm getting excited about bow season! OR at my age crossbow season.

Scouted today. Very green and super thick. Wildflowers everywhere. Lots of snakes though, nearly stepped on three. Wear your snake gaiters/boots if you go.

I loved the wildflowers yesterday as well. I had my snake boots on but didn't see any, thank God. Spiders were everywhere though. I had to walk with a stick out in front of me to knock the webs down or I would have been covered!

Pulled my cameras a couple of weeks ago. We suffered 50% attrition on the cameras but some of those were in obvious places. Haven't gotten through all the pics yet. Lot of growth and green, green, green. I lost the most promissing camera but I had a backup near by.

Lost due to theft or just not working anymore due to weather/burns?

Lost due to theft or confiscation. Two were right in the open. One was locked. The others were less noticable but near likely hunted areas. These were all lost after season ended. I dropped 5 this year 4 tasco and 1 Moultrie.

Take plenty of water with ya, a GPS, a small hand held compass just in case the GPS quits. And good luck to ya this year.

Default Ready?!?!?

Iíve been ready since I walked out of the woods at the end of last season! Lol. Just bought some new trail cams and ready to get out there next days off and put em up. Saw a lot of activity during turkey season. Walked up on a few bucks whoíve shed. Really looking forward to this season.

Finally got to view my pics from Dec - May. Lots of deer, few pigs, one coyote and two bobcats plus the assorted raccoons, possum and armadillos.

Also had someone walking around with an AR in March. Same person came back in April. That camera was pointing at a camera that was stolen although they were a decent ways apart. That area looks like it will be productive this year. Activity died off when spring growth really took off. Most of my hog shots were middle of the day, out in the open in front of God and everybody. Stupid pigs. There going down this year.

I have one shooter buck shown in December. Late afternoon. If he made it I'll be waiting for him come October.

Only takes one time to learn what Bull-nettle is.
(My first was in grade school)

The smaller plants can be the worst as they're spines are sometimes very very fine and small. Look closely at your knee to make sure you don't still have some in ya.

It's something else in Texas ya just have to watch out for when traversing the great outdoors here. Should clear up in a day or three. Hope ya find relief quickly.

I've been meaning to get out and check cams. Just so hot. Had the opportunity to go this am but chose to stay home. My wife is pregnant with our second due Aug 24, so not sure how much more time I'll have to scout before season. I set a cam up over a waterhole again after I saw a bunch of tracks in there. We'll see what's happening in there soon!

Good looking buck for sure. Good luck getting him down this season. Completely understand the concern of someone picking out the area. I even went as far as dragging my buck out halfway to the truck last season before taking any pictures. Didnít want anyone going to that spot because they noticed a particular tree or something. LOL Hoping my cameras will pick a few thing up. Going back out sometime next week to put out a few more.

Last few years, anything I kill I drag out from a totally different spot. I Understand itís everyoneís land but they donít have to know my honey hole! Iím hoping to get him down for sure, getting pics like that just makes the days go by slower knowing what I get to look forward too!

Checked cards this afternoon. There's one descent buck hitting this waterhole. There's a night picture of a bachelor group that has some shooters in it but you have to really zoom in to tell. Had some does, fawns and pigs too. They are coming fairly regularly and found the trail they tend to come in on. Identified a few trees to setup. Will continue to monitor as season approaches and see if patterns change. Cool pics either way.

I feel like I say this every single year but I wanna get out and get a set up out there and hunt...I just wanna put an arrow through a deer! This thread has me saying it AGAINNNNNN! I guess it’s the intimidation factor of never doing it and having no clue what I am doing
