My wifes an elementary teacher. At the school she teaches it's a policy that's enacted by the higher ups. She hates the socialist bs but the second the parent that didn't buy **** comes up and cries about something a new policy is made.

Well with 2 teacher income in our family. Elementary school is a whole different animal than middle or high school is.
My kids are in 1st and 2nd grade. When we brought our supplies to school on meet the teacher, they all went into big bins for the class. As long as the kids have what they need to do their work, then I am happy.
Yes my wife teaches elementary and I teach highschool. I have been teaching either Ag or Welding for the last 14 years. Yes it sucks that every year it seems my budget gets cut, and the football team gets new uniforms. I could be ****** about it everyday if I wanted to---I have to choose to be here for the kids and teach them something that will help them the rest of their lives. My wife has spent lots of money on her room, goodies for the kids and so on. Yes I wish she didn't, but those are "her" kids and thats what she does for them. She has gotten better about spending our money, but it still happens.
Teaching is the easy part of our profession. There is no teacher shortage---There is a shortage of people that will put up with all the BS that they keep adding to us. Ask any teacher how much time they spend during the day taking care of "non teaching" things.

My wife teaches 2nd grade they do the put all supplies together and even distribute, her schools emphasized standard color folders to help prevent your case From happening I understand your frustration, buy your child nice things you want them to enjoy them but I promise her teacher has way more to worry about and focused on than making sure everyone get their exact folder.

!
Do you all realize that cellphone companies give iPhones away for "free" so that's not a good indicator of disposable income?
I have given old phones away.
My job requires me to have a phone so I have the iPhone 11 coming and two perfectly fine iPhone 10 I can give away to whoever wants them.

Next year don’t buy a **** thing
Wait until about the end of the first week and then get what your child needs and write their name on it multiple places with a permanent marker
We never fell for that crap after the first time they pulled it
If kids need school supplies then let the school district buy them
If they can spend millions on stadiums, indoor practice fields and all that other stuff that is not necessary for education then they can buy school supplies easily
If I know of a family that is in need I will gladly contribute to help their kids get the necessities though
