    The sound quality must have stunk using steel as opposed to copper. But it worked!

                        My grandfather had a barbed wire phone line many years ago that connected his cabin to his brothers 500 yards away.

                          This is so cool and I have never heard of this!

                          An interesting side note: the author of this article, J. Evetts Haley is a well known Texas historian. Those of you who were following a recent thread about Lonesome Dove might be interested to know that Mr. Haley is said to have written the “quintessential “ (although slightly sycophantic, IMO) biography on Charles Goodnight. If you haven’t read it, you might find it an interesting adjunct to the television series.
