Building a stand for a gong?

I decided to put my gong out to get sone shots in before closing weekend of Montana elk.

At 150 yards, 7mm Rem Mag snapped the wires holding it. Second shot with the rubber bungie cords knocked it over. It gives me an appreciation of the KE the bullet has.

Is there a better way to set this up so I’m not doing a 300 yards hike after each shot?

    Chains?

Try tying it off (w/ bungee) to the bottom as well. That way all of the pull won't be on the top.

        I'd use chains

Add a lot of weight to your base.

Or widen out your base about a foot or so in the back should also do it.

Run a couple of 2x's from the top down to the ground to act as a kickstand to keep it from tipping over.

I’d widen the base a little with some 2x4’s or drive a couple t-posts or stakes to tie it to if you don’t plan on moving it.

Also, see if you can come across an old fire hose or some conveyer belt pieces to hang it. Chains work great until you miss a little high and hit a chain.

Ive seen chains run between t posts that work ok. Needed something to hold the bottom. Maybe heavy wire cable to hang it and then stake it down?

Ride your UTV or Harse out there ;-)

Move your 2x’s all the way forward

Thanks for comments. I think a couple 2x4s on a 45 degree angle in the rear, meeting 2 on the ground should work.

The better shot was my second one BTW, off of shooting sticks I built today. I’m first and foremost a bowhunter- Rifle hunting is #2.

I use old fire hose. You can buy it on eBay.
