              I think that’s a Rio. Most Easterns have darker brown tips on their fan. Nice bird either way.

                  There’s no rios in Nacogdoches county. The area that bird was killed in is likely around etoile or chireno, which has a healthy population of Easterns. Birds are like humans, they vary in color as well. I’ve killed 6 Easterns in the same place and they all vary in color.

                    8.5" beard, 3/4" spurs, don't think he got a weight but said it was good sized.

                    He called it in, had not heard any gobbling until yesterday morning before daylight.

                    Between Chireno and Etoile.

                    They see some during deer season around feeders but spring time they are not as frequent

                            True ! I bow killed a Rio in Runnels Co. years ago that was colored like a Merriam. Prettiest white tips on his tail feathers ! I’m still kicking my own butt for not mounting that bird.
