Anybody heard about this and know what might be going on? Has always been a super nice guy that seemed genuinely concerned about the counties well being. Even made rounds during the freeze letting folks use his satellite phone to call family members. This was the only way I was able to talk to my dad. Anyways….here’s hoping there’s no fire where this smoke is.

Met him last summer crossing the road in a golf cart at friends place outside leakey. He seemed like a nice guy, was chewing on a stoagie

Figured he was a throwback and handled things the right way. "Y'all cant do that, and dont do that again. Be careful"

This still doesn’t show or say much about what’s going on. I’ve had nothing but good dealings with Sheriff Johnson. Hoping for a positive outcome nonetheless.

I own property and hunt there also and don't have any info on what's going on yet. Based on his post I might assume his pro active enforcement of illegals and such may have ruffled the feathers on the left and they have stirred up things to try and shut things down. There are signs at the entrance to Real County saying don't come in the county if you are planning on doing wrong. Again, I don't have any personal knowledge, just speculation.

Well, there was a pursuit back in September of some illegals where that may or may not of happened. These days you just don't know who you may be dealing with. Lately here in the hill country they have been fleeing until they wreck out or get boxed in, it's getting out of hand with no end in sight.

Some of the largest and wildest gun collections I have seen, have been "owned" by former Sheriffs

I could easily see the sheriff beating that case if it was tried in state court in Real County. Jury nullification.

I'm sure though that if charges are brought, they will be brought in Travis County.

Probably investigating him for actually enforcing the law and arresting some foreign exchange students or something. If they won't release the details I'll take that with a grain of salt. If he did something worth investigating they'd probably tell us what it was.

Sounds like a heck of a plan to slow illegal traffic in his county.

I guarantee when word gets out that you'll lose your money if you get caught in REAL county, they'll go to another place.

It seem’s that most of the folks in Real County that have issues with him or don’t care for him are ones that have had contact with him due to their own wrong doings. I hope nothing comes of this since he’s done right by my family, friends and the county in my opinion. I guess time will tell.

So how is this different than when drug smugglers are caught and processed? The drugs and/or cash is seized. Vehicles are seized.

"Undocumented immigrants" are still breaking the law (no matter what title is given to them).

According to the sign posted earlier, they were warned!

I hope this doesn't go any further than just an investigation. I don't know the guy, but I know people that own property in Leakey and have owned for many generations. The Sheriff seems like he's trying his best to do right by the county, but with the influx of "city folk" to the area, that'll make it hard.

If we sneak across the checkpoints with no papers I wouldn't exactly call that "for no reason." Looking at the quote from the article above about the $2700 it would seem that dude was suspected of being a smuggler. Seems like a **** good reason to me.

the only issue i have is seizing property without a conviction and i think that is where the hang up is.

I guess I have to ask, did he ever take any money or property from some Mexican Americans that just didn't happen to have their ID on them ? Maybe seized some property from someone he shouldn't have based on profiling ?

What are they supposed to do with it while going through the criminal justice system? lol... that's how it works, it's seized pending trial/court outcome. Heck I know people who've had their own guns stolen, police located them and they couldn't get them back until the perp's trials were completed because they were evidence.

From what I read it was not taken from suspected smugglers in every case. Furthermore he did not follow the protocols after taking the money.

Can you prove that he pocketed any of the money? You're not a thief unless you take the money and put it in your pocket. By your line of thought every IRS agent is a thief.

Where did I say he pocketed the money??? I don’t care if he gave it to charity, if allegations are true he broke the law.
