Default Heart Issue!

Had a heart cath yesterday (2nd in 6 years), because my cardiologist wanted to check on my aortic valve. It doesnt close completely and is getting worse. Cath confirmed his concern so we go this week to visit a specialist to see if we are suitable for a TAVR surgery. (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

Anybody gone through it?

Negative.
I do have a friend that has 2 titanium heart valves though.
You can always hear her ticking if you listen close.
Almost 15 yrs now, and she seems healthy as can be.
Here's to a full recovery if you go that route .

My 86 year old father went through this procedure last year. He was under twilight anesthesia for most of the procedure. It lasted no more than 20 minutes. We were called back to see the doctor- he said everything went perfect. By the time my mother and I found his room (45 minutes later) he was eating breakfast. Hes had zero issues after the surgery.

PM me and Id be happy to discuss

Gods got this bro. My father went through triple A surgery (aneurism on his aorta) at age 80. He lived eight more years as my mom’s primary care giver. Your in His hands. What better place to be.

I had my aortic valve replaced the first part of last month but had to go with the full open heart surgery because of an aneurysm on my aorta. My surgeon said if it has to be replaced again they can go with a TAVR surgery. I hope you are able to have the TARV surgery because I would think the recovery would be easier than open heart.

I work in direct pt care of heart transplant and ct surgery pts and tavr is the way to go. Similar to your heart cath you just had they just replace the valve while they are in there. Go in thru groin or wrist stay overnight and discharge next day is our protocol

I got an On-X aortic mechanical valve last year. I was 38 when they put it in. They had to crack me open to shave some of the middle wall down while they were in my heart. Id be happy to try to answer any questions you may have about living with a mechanical valve since my valve install was different than yours will be with the less invasive TAVR. Shoot me a PM with questions or your number if you want to talk about it at all.

With the mechanical, Im in blood thinners forever. It also ticks. Sometimes it seems louder than others. People can hear it standing next to me. I have read that some people like hearing this tick, it makes them feel alive. I wont lie, it drives me crazy sometimes, especially at night. Not sure on TAVR recovery but my recovery was much longer than I thought it would be.

One more random note - if you get an On-X valve, get the serial number, valve size and other info. Send the company an email with that info and your ring size and they will send you a ring made out of the same material.

Tim is this appointment next Wednesday for the procedure or just to see the specialist to set the appointment. As I told you, when you go in for the procedure, I and my Bible Study class will be praying over you at that time. Like was posted, you're tougher'n nails. You got this (with a little help from Almighty God!)

Thanks for the info. Crazy thing, a male nurse in the Cath lab told me he has a mechanical. Got it 10 years ago and is 68 now. DIL's Dad has one she can hear across the room, said it is loud.

Thanks Charlie, just the first visit Wednesday to check and make sure I am a candidate. They scheduled a CT scan at 10:30 and visit at 1:15. We'll see what they say.
