    Cotton Seed / Gin Trash?

We are planning on feeding cotton seed at the lease at the beginning of the year. With that being said has anyone tried Gin Trash? It's the seed plus some lent. 12% protein and high fiber. We still plan on feeding out 20% protein pellets also along with the cotton seed. I can get the Gin Trash for
.5/lb in 600lb bales or cotton seed at $220 a ton.

If it’s the gin trash I’m thinking of your deer are gonna have to be pretty hungry to eat it.

$220 a ton for "gin trash" is way too much.

That's what I was thinking. Mostly stemmy stalks an dried seed hull.

Contextually I think the trash is .05 per pound or $30 per bale. I sure hope so.

You'll find very little cotton seed in gin trash.

That's why they sell seed and lint separate of trash.

It's generally the burr, stem and some cotton mote type lint that didn't get extracted. Mix a high energy grain with gin trash and it makes an excellent feed for cattle.

Gins used to give the trash away but its gained a lot of popularity as a high quality cheap roughage.

Its $30 for a 600lb bale of gin trash or $220 a ton for cotton seed. This is at BF&M in Rosebud. I wasnt sure about the trash just talked to a guy feeding it to cows and thought maybe it was a decent way to supplement it also along with the 20% pellets. Thanks for the answer so far.

This is a you get what you pay for situation. I'd recommend paying for the cottonseed. I've been feeding it on my lease for 4 years now and it had made a big difference in the body and antler sizes of the deer.

Call any cotton gin in the area. I feed it to cattle and have been quoted between $200 and $240 a ton depending on the gin for 10 ton loads.
