I elected for an APR rebarrel for the same reason op, no confidence in the gun.

Fit of the gun matters. And scope fit. And trigger.
I am a firm believer in confidence in all endeavors
Especially fishing, golf, shooting and hunting.
I trust my Savages and Ruger’s.

Trigger pull is not all about poundage. Ill take a 5 pound pull trigger that breaks clean over a 2 pounder with lots of creep. I like a 2.5 pound trigger that breaks with no creep.

I am sure this is not your problem but..... son has a savage 17hmr that would drive tracks at the range but was horrible in the field. Turns out the scope mount machine holes were out of alignment so the scope not aligned with the barrel. At 100 yards it was perfect but anything in front of or past that it was off.
