    Toyota Tacoma Lovers

Wife and I flew in to Houston to visit her family and go to her work party last week. Cheapest available rental is a 2021 Tacoma 4x4 crew cab.

I have seen a lot of folks express fandom on here.

Why do y'all like these things?

    1. It rides like a logging truck. I have several 1986 F150 4x4's. The ride in this thing is much worse. I'd say comparable to an old wrecker. Much worse ride than a modern HD pickup. This is the most significant gripe I have with this truck. The atrocious ride quality must be felt to be believed. Wife thought we were going to give our baby whiplash over bumps in his car seat. It is BAD.

    2. Gas mileage isn't very good. It getting 19 or 20 mpg.... yawn. I get close to that in my full size.

    3. Lack of power is ATROCIOUS. This thing downshifts at least once, sometimes twice on overpasses to maintain 70 mph, at sea level, on a gentle overpass. It has a v6, but feels like a 4.

    4. Cabin is TINY. Front seat has to be scooted significantly forward to allow room for the carseat. Backseat legroom is comparable to my 1998 Mustang, but with more headroom. No adult can sit in the backseat of a Tacoma unless dwarf.

    5. Wind feel is noticeable. This thing gets knocked around by bow waves on an 18 wheeler like a motorhome. Passengers can feel gentle wind buffeting the truck at hwy speeds.

    6. LOUD. I'd say the interior road noise on this truck is comparable to a 1988 Ford Escort. Maybe more.

    Positives:
    1. It handles like a car in both parking and tight higher speed corners. Not much body roll or oversteer like a larger pickup.

    2. Theoretical because I haven't left concrete with it but it is short, narrow and seems light. I bet it would be great in most off-road situations.

U left out they are proud of the tacomas. Ive always felt you are better off getting a full size pick up. However tacomas are as solid as they come and built to last forever.

I am thinking folks like them that live in the city and yet go off-road a bunch to hunt or fish. They handle really well and all but they are terribly underpowered and uncomfortable.

Because you can take off the M and the A on the sticker and tell everyone how awesome and dependable your underpowered TACO is.

I have a 2002 Tacoma that is pretty old and worn. I have to park that thing in the garage because people would come to the door or walk up my drive way asking to buy it. I like it, fits me, no need for the latest and greatest GPS system or anything but they hold their value pretty well. I have put almost 250K more on it from when I bought it used and had someone ask to buy if for 5K under what I originally paid for it back in 2005.

I think it's all hype and fanboy driven. Like Apple products and xbox.

Tacoma haters are gonna hate. My husband had a 2002 single cab Tacoma he drove and put over 400,000 miles on it, he hit a deer, we bought all the parts and sold it as is with parts. The person who bought it put it back together and is still driving it. That’s all he’s ever driven and I have a 2017 Tundra and I love it. To each it’s own. Have a great day!

Darn shame that man had to hit a deer for you to allow him to get a new truck.
